The New York Science Fiction Film Festival will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 at the Stuart Cinema and Cafe (79 West St, Brooklyn, NY 11222), from 10am-10pm ET.

Program director Daniel Abella returns to talk about this year’s festival, in a new location with an intriguing lineup of short films from all around the world. Daniel talks about what they look for in selecting shorts to present in this festival, and how effective storytelling, cinematography and sound design become more important in short films and how they focused on films that run 15-20 minutes max — with some as short as 2 minutes!

This festival will also feature Q&A sessions with attending filmmakers after each shorts session, and after the feature presentations as well. There is also talk about building a distribution network to facilitate a wider audience being able to see these short films, Dystopia Entertainment.

The films may also be available for digital viewing a week after the festival, and the open call for submissions to the 2025 Festival will be on the website in October, so stay tuned for details.

Daniel also talks about finding and wanting to do what he could to support the Stuart Cinema & Cafe in Brooklyn, and having a number of filmmakers attending be local Brooklyn artists makes this year’s location even more special.
