Authors Maria Jose Tenuto and John Tenuto talk about their newest book, The Star Wars Radio Dramas: Brian Daley and the Serializations that Saved NPR, which goes into the story and the history of the radio dramas and how instrumental author Brian Daley was in getting Star Wars adapted into a serialized radio plays, and how their broadcast beginning in 1981 generated the ratings and donations needed to keep NPR afloat and thrive.
John and Maria talk about the research they went into to tell the story of Brian Daley’s dedication to this adaptation, and their history with doing lectures about the radio dramas and their impact on the fandom, and how the locations and species created by Brian Daley in the Star Wars novels he wrote continue to impact the stories today.
John also recommends The Star Wars Vault: Thirty Years of Treasures from the Lucasfilm Archives by Stephen J. Sansweet and Peter Vilmur, if you can find a copy (hardcover with audio CDs).
We also talk a little bit about their previous book, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan: The Making of the Classic Film, which is a gorgeous coffee table book retrospective of the behind the scenes details of what went into making the classic Trek movie.
