“Archenemy” sparkles in sight & sound

February 18, 2021 By Summer Brooks Leave a Comment

The indie scifi-thriller Archenemy makes its way to DVD and Blu-ray courtesy of RLJE Films on February 16, 2021, so more fans of indie scifi can see this unique film for themselves.

Written and directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer (Daniel Isn’t Real, Some Kind of Hate), ARCHENEMY stars Joe Manganiello (“True Blood”), Skylan Brooks (“Empire”), Zolee Griggs (“Wu-Tang: An American Saga”), Paul Scheer (“Black Monday”), Amy Seimetz (Pet Semetary) and Glenn Howerton (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”).

This blu-ray release includes a fun “Making Of” featurette, but I think a treat was missed by not having a creator commentary track from writer/director Adam Egypt Mortimer. Movie-wise, the disc pops, with the soundtrack and the day/night colors, details that might not have stood out as prominently in a streaming presentation that’s not high definition.

If you’re looking for a uniquely told scifi-thriller story to add to your disc collection, this is one that should go on your list.

And don’t miss our movie review: “Archenemy”: Working with the Superhero You Find

In ARCHENEMY, Max Fist (Joe Manganiello) is a local drunk who claims to be a superhero from the planet Chromium. He tells anyone who will listen that he was pulled into a wormhole, falling through time and space, and dropped to earth without any of his powers. No one pays any attention to Max except a teenager named Hamster (Skylan Brooks) who can’t get enough of Max’s stories. When Hamster and his sister (Zolee Griggs) get in trouble with a vicious drug syndicate led by The Manager (Glenn Howerton), Max takes to the streets as a brutal vigilante hellbent on proving himself as the hero no one believes him to be.
