“Mission: Impossible – Fallout” is Damn Near Perfect Full of stunning practical stunts, the story is fast-moving thrill ride

Mission: Impossible – Fallout is a perfect reminder that Tom Cruise can still move the needle when playing Ethan Hunt. The sixth entry in the series, Fallout is jaw dropping with it’s practical effects, high spirited car chases and worldly set-pieces. In fact, it was seriously refreshing watching an action movie that didn’t rely on overwrought CGI effects that are common place in blockbuster movies.

Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, MI: Fallout is by far the loudest, most breathtaking entry in the series. It’s as if Tom and Christopher made a pact to produce the greatest stunts ever conveyed on the big screen. I’m still wondering how in the hell a 56 year old man can do this.

The plot for MI: Fallout is classic espionage. Tasked with locating three plutonium cores that had fallen into the hands of a terrorist group called the Apostles, Ethan Hunt and his team are tested like never before. Losing faith in the IMF program, CIA director Erika Sloane (Angela Bassett) teams Hunt up with an arrogant agent named August Walker (Henry Cavill); to help facilitate the investigation and keep an eye on Ethan and the IMF team members Benji (Simon Pegg) and Luther (Ving Rhames).

McQuarrie’s script plays off the mastery and secrecy of Ethan Hunt. Unlike previous films, Fallout does a great job creating diversions that make you believe an idealist like Ethan could rebel against his core values.

MI: Fallout is a film that is everything you’d expect in a summer blockbuster. It’s also a damn near-perfect action movie that has once again made me a believer in Tom Cruise! Go see this, you’ll never experience a faster two and a half hour movie!

The best intentions often come back to haunt you. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm.
