Rudd Becomes an Original Avenger

Rudd Becomes an Original Avenger

Marvel has found its cinematic Ant Man.

Actor Paul Rudd has been cast in the role, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The trade paper reports that Rudd was the front-runner for the role.   Also in contention was Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

It appears that news that Gordon-Levitt is developing a big-screen version of Sandman led Marvel to pull the trigger and sign Rudd to the role.

Director Edgar Wright will bring Ant Man to the silver screen.

Fans may be interested in which version of Ant Man Marvel is bringing to our screens.  The current script features the original hero, a scientist named Dr. Hank Pym who invents the shrinking technology (called Pym Particles!) and was one of Marvel’s earliest heroes. But it also has Scott Lang, a reformed thief who became the hero in the late 1970s.

For comics fans, Hank Pym’s Ant Man was one of the founding members of the Avengers, with Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, and the original Wasp.

I can see Rudd doing the classic Ant, but I was really holding out hope that Simon Pegg would get the nod.

You know what’s funny? I can see Simon Pegg as the older Banshee in a future X-Men movie, easily.
