Fans React to “Game of Thrones”

Fans React to “Game of Thrones”

June 4, 2013 By Mike Hickerson 9 Comments

If you haven’t seen this week’s episode of Game of Thrones, then you probably don’t want to read further into this article.  We’ve got SPOILERS ahead…

Sunday night’s Game of Thrones featured a shocking end.

Fans who have read the books knew what was coming, but those who haven’t were blindsided by the Red Wedding.

If you were among those who didn’t know what was coming, you’re not alone.   And thanks to YouTube, we’ve got a compilation of fan reaction to the events of the Red Wedding.

The episode created quite a buzz on-line.  Viewers took to Twitter and other social media outlets to express their thoughts on the twist.

Joe Concha of Mediaite.com said the writers and producers went too far. He wrote, “There are two hard and fast rules every television show and movie should live by: Never kill a dog or an animal that looks like a dog (like abrave wolf protective of certain humans) and never stab a pregnant woman repeatedly in the womb. ‘Thrones’ blatantly broke both of those rules.” Concha went on to add that he is cancelling his HBO subscription.

R&B artist Frank Ocean: “smh (shaking my head) red wedding was too hectic”

American Pie actor Jason Biggs: “OMG #GoT WTF”

Musician Ed Sheeran: “i dont know what just happened in game of thrones. i’m in shock.”

Broadway and TV star Josh Gad: “Tonight’s Game of Thrones was the most upsetting hour of TV I’ve ever seen.”

Singer Joe Jonas: “This is how I feel about the game of thrones episode just now…. What. Just. Happened.”

Even George was surprised! There’s an article over at The Onion, supposedly written by him, that is worth a read and a laugh. NSFW though, and spoiler filled about the scene. If you haven’t seen it yet, are are not through the 3rd book, do not click the link. 🙂 http://www.theonion.com/articles/oh-shit-i-totally-forgot-that-happens,32673/

I had to laugh at George’s final comment at the end of his rant.

the last couple of lines are priceless. My favorite though is:

“Sure, I’m an executive producer on the show and they send me all the scripts on these things, but I never read them. Those things are full of spoilers.”

There was an article on either Huffington Post or Atlantic Wire, saying that the producers made a few changes to the Red Wedding from the book… one being that Robb’s wife wasn’t even at the wedding, but no one’s said yet how that affects the story lines in the books (if at all yet).

Still, after what happened to Ned Stark at the end of S1, people are surprised? Methinks these folks are trying out-Whedon good ol’ Joss at building up your love and investment in characters before having them get run over by dump trucks… so far, so good 🙂

I don’t think her being at the wedding affects the story line if I remember right. I don’t recall her being mentioned after the Red Wedding in the books. I could be wrong though, it’s been a while.

I have a message for those shocked by what they saw on this episode of Game of Thrones – This isn’t TV for the weak of heart or mind. If you can’t take the reality of this imaginary world, which is pretty much what the real world is like for most not living in the West, then tune out. Better yet, read the books by Martin and you will begin to see how tame the HBO series really is, they have actually pulled back a bit from the harsh reality of the book series. This kind of stuff happens every day in the real world too, places like the Sudan, Syria, Sri Lanka, Egypt and many African countries. If what you saw on television has awakened your sensibilities then I say Damn Fine and about time. Now take that and use it to help fight the real injustices done to animals and humans every day in our real world of daily living.

Holy crap people. If you are too lazy to read the books and don’t like where this story is going then cancel your subscription now. Cuz what odds do to come up next week is going to be quite shocking

To be honest, it’s extreme moments like these that make me love the show. Seriously, if the show wasn’t like this, we wouldn’t watch it. It’s because it breaks all the rules why we watch it in the first place. And personally, I rather liked the twist ending. What surprises me though, is that this wasn’t even the season finale, I mean, how can you top that?
