The second season of Falling Skies debuted Sunday night to lower ratings than the series premiere delivered last year.
In adults 18-49, it drew 1.9 million viewers, down from 2.6 million last year
Falling Skies faced stiff competition last night from the strong NBA Finals, which also took a toll on USA Network’s Suits‘ second-season premiere last week as well as the season finales of AMC’s The Killing and Showtime’s The Borgias, among others.

That’s one of the problems with making people wait almost a year before they run a second season! And then it’s only 10 -12 episodes! Look at Walking Dead, Heroes, hell even The Sopranos (while still a huge draw) all took hits after they were on their long hiatus!
Kevin Heckman says
Actually, The Walking Dead increased from Season 1 to Season 2 by most measures. Season premiere: 5.3 to 7.3 million. Finale: 6 to 9 million. Average: 5.24 million to 6.9 million.

That’s a shame….I thought this season started out much better than last….freaked more than a little when they took the parasite out of Tom’s eye.

Let’s hope the DVR numbers help. Weren’t they up against True Blood and The Killing finale?

I think the biggest problem was the lack of promotion. The show was heavily promoted last year, but I would have missed it this year if my dvr hadn’t already had the series saved as a recordable series.
Samuel Sloan says
TNT did very little promotion for this return. It looked to me that they really didn’t start pushing the 2nd season until about a week before it was due to begin.
Chuck Barritt says
Have to say after watching the premiere I don’t see the show gaining more viewers. I’m struggling to keep it in my recorder queue. The pacing is off, and the efx are pretty bad in general. Not sure it’s worth an hour a week.

I think they waited too long to bring out the second season. They really didn’t advertise it too much compared to the first season. Some people may not even realize it is back. My Wife for one, didn’t know it until she saw me watching it on the DVR the other day and she was a big fan.
Russ says
I don’t know how relevant the numbers are, but the show is available on iTunes next day, which was a very smart move for TNT to make. Although I find them a bit pricey at $2.99 an episode, it’s a strategy that any network should consider, to make new episodes available immediately on any platform.
Matthew J. Miller says
Actually, I feel that the writing and performances have been not up to par with the first season so far. So, I don’t blame the drop some. They need to pick up their game or they’ll end up with a cancellation.
