The designer behind such classic 80’s video-game as Missile Command and Tempus will be honored later this year.
Dave Theurer will receive he Pioneer Award at this year’s Game Developers Choice Awards held in San Francisco.
The Pioneer Award is given to individuals “responsible for developing a breakthrough technology, game concept, or gameplay design at a crucial juncture in video game history, paving the way for the many developers who followed them,” reads a statement from the Game Developers Conference, hosts of the awards ceremony.
The GDC Awards will also honor Ken Doroshow and Paul M. Smith, First Amendment lawyers in the Supreme Court case involving a proposed ban of violent video games, which the justices rejected.
