Yates Says “Who” Script Comes First

Yates Says “Who” Script Comes First

December 1, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

Before we can begin to speculate on who will take on the role of the Doctor on the big-screen, director David Yates says the script must be “great.”

“I can’t really talk about that because its such a long way away,” Yates tells MTV News about a Doctor Who movie.  “We’re principally looking for a writer, and we’ll start with that. Everything has to start with a great script, so that’s more important than [casting].”

Yates goes on to say that he doesn’t yet know who would make the best big-screen Doctor.

When asked about the pressure from fandom, Yates says he isn’t worried.

“I’ve lived with pressure for so long. What’s pressure? I don’t know anymore! It’s fine, it’s good,” he said, looking only at the positives. “It’s such a wonderful character and such a wonderful world. It’s exciting.”

I thought that they were dispelling rumors of a Doctor Who movie a couple of weeks ago. But, now, they apparently have a director ready to do the movie and he’s waiting for a script to be written.

    I’m so confused.

It gets better as Stephen Moffatt just tweeted something MOST interesting…

    And I quote…

““@steven_moffat: To clarify: any Doctor Who movie would be made by the BBC team, star the current TV Doctor and certainly NOT be a Hollywood reboot.”

    And…

“@steven_moffat: Movie thing: David Yates, great director, was speaking off the cuff, on a red carpet. You’ve seen the rubbish I talk when I’m cornered.”

And if I’m not mistaken, even the BBC (who actually OWN Doctor Who) have come forward and said that NO SUCH MOVIE IS BEING MADE!

What is David Yates up to with all of this Doctor Who movie chatter? He seems to be the only one saying that such a movie is being made, that it’s a re-boot, and that a different, big-screen actor will take on the title role. Everyone else connected to Who says otherwise.

Do we need to start worrying about Yates? Do the nice young men in their clean white coats need to be standing by closely???
