Rowling Pondered Killing Ron Weasley

November 1, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 1 Comment

If you’ve read the Harry Potter novels or seen the movies you know not all of the Weasleys make it through the saga unscathed.

But at one time author J.K. Rowling thought about killing more than just one of the Weasley twins.  According to a an interview with the BBC, Rowling pondered killing off Harry’s friend Ron Weasley. Rowling never liked Harry Potter’s pal Ron very much, despite his lovable family and his budding relationship with buddy Hermione Granger. “JK admitted that she got so fed up with Ron that she seriously considered killing him off.”

She said: “Funnily enough, I planned from the start that none of them would die. Then midway through, which I think is a reflection of the fact that I wasn’t in a very happy place, I started thinking I might polish one of them off. Out of sheer spite. ‘There, now you definitely can’t have him any more.'”

“It’s a real relief to be able to talk about it all,” she explained.

But rather give in to her dark desires and secret loathings, Rowling stuck to her original vision and kept the youngest Weasley son out of harm’s way.
