Cooper Wants to Direct “Hyperion”

Cooper Wants to Direct “Hyperion”

August 3, 2011 By Michael Hickerson 2 Comments

Bradley Cooper says he would retire from acting if he could direct the big-screen version of Dan Simmons’ Hyperion.

“We are just finishing the deal to write that so that’s going ahead. If you haven’t read the books then do so because they’re fantastic. Ideally we’d like to do them all but we’re actually combining them because it’s kind of a mammoth undertaking, these four books, to consolidate and turn them into script form,” he tells Bleeding Cool. “The first one is kind of a combination of Hyperion and the Fall of Hyperion and Endymion, which is three out of the four, and then we’ll have to see where that takes us in terms of the second one. It’s my dream to direct it, but that’s like saying you want your first movie to be Avatar.”

This isn’t the first time Simmons’ epic saga has attempted to come to the big-screen.

I would *love* to see Hyperion on film, but man does it have to be done right.

Great series. I don’t see how you can combine 1-3 into one movie. Maybe 1&2, then 3&4. But the way that hollywood destroys books, I’d rather not see it.
