Producer Beth Willis is leaving Doctor Who to return to Kudos Film and Television.
Willis has been the producer for the show for the past two seasons, helping usher in the Matt Smith era and working with producer Steven Moffat. Her tenure as producer will run 27 episodes of the new show.
Also leaving the show as producer is Piers Wenger.
Wills will leave the series at the end of this month with Wenger departing the BBC at the end of September. The BBC hopes to find a replacement for Willis in time for the filming of the Doctor Who Christmas special. It will then recruit a second executive producer before filming for the 33rd series begins.
“We couldn’t keep her forever, though God knows I tried. She is off to be brave and brilliant in brand new ways, and the sad news for Doctor Who is that it will be somewhere else,” said Moffat.
Fans of the series who purchased the DVD or Blu-Ray sets of series five can hear and see Willis on the commentary track for “The Eleventh Hour.”
Dobbin Pitch says
I assume that this is where I’m supposed to make the appropriate noises about how sad it is that she is leaving, but really, all I can think is, ‘She’s hot, and has a great set of cans…’ I know, I know… tact-fail.
