American fans left wondering what will happen next after “The Rebel Flesh” will have to wait a bit longer to find out.
According to Doctor Who News, BBC America will not show the second half of the two part story this weekend because of the Memorial Day holiday.
It will air on Saturday, June 4th instead.
Fans will repeats of other Matt Smith era episodes of Saturday.
As an American fan, I must admit I’m a bit disappointed by this news. BBC America originally promised fans that we’d get new episodes on the same day as their British airing. And this delay means the U.S. will be a week behind the BBC airings, including the mid-season finale that airs in early June.

Booo
Lejon from Chandler says
There is absolutely no reason for them to delay. People will be home that day… Almost guaranteed numbers…
Lex says
Maybe they’re still sore about that whole rebellion thing?

If any of you who have consistently watched BBC America know that they do this every year at this time. In fact this happens virtually every holiday weekend. This is due to the fact that ratings are lower as people are either away or at parites or watchin something else. There are also times when they use the weekend for a special marathon or something. I was not aware that they were f=going to do it as I had just assumed it would be the same this year as last, as I see it is. If they have a good marathon on instead I will be happier. That said I understnad how some of you would feel this way.
Lejon from Chandler says
Still. It blows.

Thank God for torrents!!!

Well, I refuse to wait two weeks so I’m off to the alternate means room.
Mich67 says
No surprise there…they advertised that it would be two weeks before the second half aired the night the first half aired. Don’t really think the delay is necessary though…just because some people will be gone for the weekend doesn’t mean that they can’t tape it. Since they promised we’d get the same eppy on the same day maybe we could get two eppys in two weeks…probably wouldn’t happen but it would be nice.

Yeah, that’s not going to work for me. It’s bad enough that Doctor Who’s season is being broken in half over in the UK, but to force us here to take an additional break two episodes before that long break? No.

I really love a lot of what BBC America has been doing over the past few months as far as embracing us scifi fans with all their scifi content. It’s just disappointing that they don’t think the audience is loyal enough to watch during a holiday weekend. Just glad it only effects the last two episodes of this first part of the season. I guess I’m back to using my previous methods to watch for a couple of weeks.
TallGrrl says
It’s not about being “loyal” to watch over a holiday weekend.
It’s about having an actual Life.
People’s kids are out of school. People are off for a 3 (or 4) day weekend.
I, personally, have guests coming. Fortunately, they’re into The Doctor, but we have plans. Including plans that involve being paid money for, which we did because…well…it’s a 3 (or 4) day weekend.
We’d’ve have to miss the show because tho’ I have Digital Cable, I don’t have a DVR, nor do I presently happen to have VCR capabilities.
It’s not like they don’t know that people DVR and whatever. It’s that they know a lot of people don’t or won’t or might not because it’s a holiday weekend.
Give BBC America a break.
This isn’t the worst thing they could do.
The worst thing is them cutting shows up for commercials.
THAT pisses me off. Not delaying a new episode of something because it’s a holiday weekend.

@TallGrrl. Sorry, but when BBC America publicized the new season as being shown on the same date as the episodes aired in the UK, most of assumed this would mean ALL THE EPISODES! BBC America has been rewarded for this policy and their co-production of the season with higher than ever ratings for Dr Who and a loyal audience who tunes in on Saturday night. Now they pull this garbage where they don’t air this episode and the mid-season finale until a week later. Sorry, but that’s a bit of a problem based on their earlier statements and promotion.
I’ll be fascinated to know how big a hit they take on ratings from fans who use alternative methods to watch it. I don’t plan to be a week behind….that’s all I’m saying.
Arkle says
Should I call a Waahmbulance for everybody here? This thing happens all the time; TV shows don’t air new episodes the day/week of a national holiday. It’s rare when it DOESN’T happen that way. In 11 years, CSI had ONE episode that aired on Thanksgiving, about five years ago. That was more the exception than the rule. Besides, it’s only one week! Last season we who could not/would not use alternative means had to wait TWO for episodes.
I’m sorry if I come across as mean here but honestly, some of the complainers in this thread remind me of people at work who order 19 items, some of which have special instructions, than wonder why it takes more than 2 minutes to get it to them.

Well I recorded last weeks Dr. Who on my DVR and I have not watched it yet, so I guess this will be a win-win for me. Sorry about everyone else…

I live in America and plenty of people record things to a hard drive with dvr and watch them later. I personally bought a season pass on the zune store through xbox. You’d think at least someone like me who paid up front would get to see it even if it isn’t broadcast on BBC America.

I also purchased the season 6 pass for doctor who. I am wondering if we will have to purchase another season pass for the second part of the season?? I really hate that they split it into 2 parts. 🙁

I been re-watching the mid-season finale tailer, OGM.
My non-geek brother points out, nods to star wars, star trek, and many other sc-fi.
George, get your lawers out.

My understanding (though only through second hand resources) is that BBC America took a really nasty hit on this, and yet they are not being very apologetic about it.
It was no skin off of my nose as I see the episodes that very day through “alternative sources,” but am still disturbed at the snubbing we American received because of this.
I’ll be curious to see if BBC America tries to redeem themselves with the second half of Doctor Who.
