Hartley Hints About “Smallville” Finale

May 4, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

Smallville star Justin Hartley has offered a few hints about what fans can expect when the long-running show ends its run later this month.

If you don’t want to know, please turn back now.  What he says is potentially SPOILER-filled.

“Oliver ends up, in the finale, having to ask Clark (Tom Welling) to help him,” Hartley told TV Guide. “[The darkness] is overpowering him. He’s not in control anymore. Oliver is gone, just disconnected.”

The actor claims that the two-hour episode will resolve his character’s story in a way that will satisfy fans.

“We figure [Oliver’s situation] out in the finale, to a point,” he said. “We do the story justice.”

Good. Cause Oliver’s been the only character with any sort of dramatic emotional arc, even though Smallville’s writers don’t know how to handle dramatic emotional arcs.

As with most of the CWB shows, this series has been targeted at a younger audience. The characters, to me, have always seemed to flitter about. That being said, fans should have a sense of closure with the last few episodes. Spoiler’s follow. Oliver appears to have found himself, Supergirl is off to the Legion, Darkseid’s threat has been abated, Lex is back, and Superman has arrived. Ma and Pa Kent make guest appearances and even Jimmy Olsen reappears. I thought the theme music change was a nice touch too! I will be interesed to see what Marvel character Tom Weller becomes.
