Lane Says Superman Reboot Will Be “A Wild Ride”

March 17, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

Oscar-nominated actress Diane Lane says the upcoming Superman reboot will be “a wild ride.”

Directed by Zach Snyder, the upcoming movie is working under the title of Man of Steel and will serve as a reboot for the entire Superman franchise.  Lane has signed on to play Martha Kent, the adopted mother of Clark Kent.

“It’s going to be a wild ride,” Lane tells USA Weekend.

Lane said she recently watched Snyder’s “Watchmen” in order to prep for Snyder’s unique filmmaking style and vision, and “to remind myself of what an audacious, brilliant man Zack Snyder is.”

“I love 300 and I’m very flattered to play Martha Kent and live up to his vision, she added. “It’s pretty cool.”

“I’ve always wanted to raise a good man,” she adds. “I thought that was the biggest challenge a woman could have, and so I get the embarrassment of riches.”

I’m keeping an open mind about this reboot. Superman is my favorite comic character & hope this is done well. I was hoping for Brandon Routh, but Henry Cavill is an excellent actor. They had better use the John Williams theme though or it’s a fail as far as I’m concerned. Changing the main theme music for Superman would be like making up a new national anthem.

While I liked the way 300 and Watchmen were filmed I can’t help but wonder if they go the same direction if it’ll work for a Superman movie. They both had kind of an unrealistic dark feel to them…Superman has always been kinda…well for lack of a better word…bright. I guess time will tell…still looking forward to it.

I agree with Mich67 regarding the “brightness” of Superman. Keep in mind that Supes was always supposed to be the epitome of heroic optimism. His stories NEEDED that bright, colorful look to it. Superman is not just a powerful being in terms of physical ability, but he is as morally upright as any comic book character can possibly be. He radiates brightness.

Zach Snyder’s “Watchmen” were about (mostly) about men who strove to do something better in the world they lived in, but because humans have an inherently dark side to them I found working with a somewhat darkened color palate served the movie well.

I’m hopeful that Zach also realizes that Superman stands apart from characters in his past movies. Superman’s goodness needs to be represented in a movie that is filmed brightly with a very strong color saturation.

I personally can’t see Superman filmed in any other way…
