While it wasn’t a huge commercial success during its initial run, Ridley Scott’s “Blade Runner” has found an audience and become one of the most influential movies ever made.
That could be part of the reason that Alcon Entertainment is looking to bring the world of “Blade Runner” back to the silver screen.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Alcon is currently in negotiations acquire the film, television and ancillary franchise rights to produce prequels and sequels to the iconic science-fiction thriller.
If the project moves forward, Alcon would like to bring back producer Bud Yorkin to produce the new installment(s).
Alcon co-heads Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin will co-produce. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEOs of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.
Alcon seems to know it has a beloved movie property on its hands and promised to be mindful of that fact.
“This is a major acquisition for our company, and a personal favorite film for both of us,” Kosove and Johnson said in a statement. “We recognize the responsibility we have to do justice to the memory of the original with any prequel or sequel we produce. We have long-term goals for the franchise, and are exploring multiplatform concepts, not just limiting ourselves to one medium.”

Would it be so horrible to leave it alone and do something new?

Do something new???? Does Hollywood know how to do that anymore? It’s not in their play book, so how would they know how to do something new?!?!?!

To expand on the story would be doing something new. They’re not talking about a reboot.
