Fillion Asks Fans to Stop Sending Him Money

February 28, 2011 By Michael Hickerson 7 Comments

Never underestimate the passion of a fanbase.

While talking about the return of “Firefly” on the Science Channel last week, actor Nathan Fillion joked that if he won the lottery, he’d use that money to buy the rights to the canceled series and get the crew back together to make more.

Fans took him at his word and decided to not wait on the lottery to help out Fillion. They set up an account and began donating money in the hopes that he could buy the show rights and begin production again.

Now the actor has asked fans to stop sending him money.

Last Friday, he tweeted ” It’s beautiful to dream of more Firefly, but PLEASE DON’T SEND ANY MONEY. Just keep being great Browncoats, which you are!”

That said, you can always send donations to Slice of SciFi!

EDITOR NOTE:

Michael did not mean to send us money in order to help bring back Firefly – however great that would be, but donate in order to help keep Slice of SciFi on the air and to help defray some of the expenses of putting the show together week after week for the internet and satellite radio.

Our gratitude and thanks goes out to all of our fans who are currently giving regularly and hoping more will get onboard the great SoSF starship.

I wonder when a television studio will get wind of this and think “Hey, maybe we’ve got something here” and potentially put the show back into production?

It’s a wonderful dream…I think it would have been given a better chance if it had been on a different network…same thing with Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles. Seems that all the good shows get canceled.

Did anyone tell Mr. Fillion about the open letter to him from the author Patrick Rothfuss in Rothfuss’ blog (Dated Feb 23, 2011) saying he’d join in funding a backing group to revive the show? 🙂

Don’t hold your breath, Mitch from Omaha. The next time a TV network or studio has a good idea will be the first time they’ve ever had a good idea.

Yeah, I saw that tweet. Made me wonder just how much was going towards it already.

Do people actually have any idea how much money it takes to produce a TV show?
Especially a genre show with fx?
I think it would make peoples’ heads spin.

That having been said, I wish all of the people sending money to Fillion would just stop….
And send that money to ME.

And, nowadays, if you can’t guarantee CSI numbers *out the gate*, your show won’t make it past the 3rd episode.
