Online Gamer Dies After Marathon Gaming Session

February 24, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 9 Comments

Playing video games is supposed to be fun, not life threatening.

Not so for a gamer in China, who died after going without food, water or rest in order to spend three days playing an on-line video game.

BBC News reports that the 30-year-old unidentified male lost consciousness in an internet cafe on the outskirts of Beijing.

Local reports claimed that the victim was rushed to hospital but couldn’t be revived. It added that he had spent more than £900 on gaming in the month prior to his death.

In 2005, a 28-year-old man died in South Korea in similar circumstances when he played online games for 50 hours without taking a break.

How does one not end up sitting in a pile of their own filth way before the point of death? You’d think the smell of one wetting themselves would’ve alerted any bystanders to a problem way before that.

I am pretty sure I’m going to pull through. And the fetish for Diablo II is waning anyway…

What do you mean they’re coming out with Diablo III?

The guy wasn’t a gamer he was a gambler, the “online game” wasn’t Starcraft 2 it was a online casino.
