A new digital series based on the popular video-game franchise “Mortal Kombat” had landed two big genre stars.
This week it was announced that Jeri Ryan and Tahmoh Penikett have been cast in the digital series.
Penikett will play Stryker, who according to the Mortal Kombat wiki, “Stryker was the leader of the Riot Control Brigade when Outworld’s portal opened over New York City.” He was chosen as a warrior to liberate Earth from the evil Shao Kahn.
Ryan will play Sonya Blade. Ryan will be reprising the role from a short film based on the videogame.
Warner Brothers is releasing the webisodes after a Kevin Tancheroen written and directed “Mortal Kombat” online short tallied over 10 million hits last year. The company has also been rumored to be testing the market for a full feature release.
The web series is currently in production and will be released sometime in the spring, although there is no official word on how many webisodes will be made.
