Yesterday we brought you news that actress Cobie Smulders was in talks to star in “The Avengers.”
Today we have confirmation that the actress has accepted a role as a female SHIELD agent in the upcoming film. Smulders will play Agent Maria Hill, the second in command of the organization. Hill made her first appearance in comics in 2005 and has been a popular character in the Marvel universe.
According to Variety, Smulders has been confirmed for the role of Hill, beating out at least five actresses, including, reportedly, Morena Baccarin (of “Firefly” and “V”), Jessica Lucas (“Cloverfield”) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World”), all of which, at some point, read opposite Nick Fury star, Samuel L. Jackson.
The role is the first big-screen role for Smulders who can be seen on “How I Met Your Mother.”

Don’t know much about her acting ability since the only thing I’ve seen her in is “How I Met Your Mother”. Looks good though.
