“How To Train Your Dragon” Wins Annie Award

“How To Train Your Dragon” Wins Annie Award

February 7, 2011 By Michael Hickerson 1 Comment

“Toy Story 3” may be the front runner for the best animated movie at the Oscars but the movie was not the big winner at this weekend’s Annie Awards.

That honor went to Dreamwork’s “How to Train Your Dragon” which took home 10 prizes, including best animated feature. The film was up against “Toy Story 3” and “Tangled.”

The ceremony was boycotted by Disney. The studio decided not to make any awards push for the Annies in a dispute over voting procedures, which Disney claims is stacked in favor of DreamWorks Animation movies.

Presented by the International Animated Film Society, the Annies often are a forecast for the animated-feature category at the Academy Awards. But “Toy Story 3”, from Disney’s Pixar Animation, remains the favorite for the Feb. 27 Oscars.

It’s not surprising, really. How to Train Your Dragon was easily the best movie to come out last year (not counting the movie I was in, Destination: Outer Space, available on dvd at dosmovie.com).
