Remembering John Barry

johnbarryLegendary music composer John Barry has passed away at the age of 77.

Barry was a prolific writer of music for popular Hollywood films, but is probably best known for creating the iconic theme for the world’s most famous secret agent, James Bond. Barry wrote and directed the classic theme for agent 007, first features in “Doctor No.”

Barry composed the soundtrack for 11 Bond films including “Goldfinger,” “From Russia With Love” and “You Only Live Twice.”

Barry wrote the music for dozens of classic films and won an Oscar for his work five times. He won for the scores from “Midnight Cowboy,” “Dances with Wolves,” “Out of Africa” and “Born Free.”

“It is with great sadness that the family of composer John Barry announce his passing on the 30th of January 2011 in New York,” said the family of Barry in a statement. Barry was 77.

    I didn’t realize that all the above were composed by him…but I didn’t see the credit for “Somewhere in Time”…Thanks for the update. He will be missed very much!

    “His sound style will love forever”
    The melody for “You Only Live Twice” is one of my favorite things ever.
