New Spidey Won’t Feature Jameson

January 19, 2011 By Mike Hickerson Leave a Comment

For the past couple of weeks, we’ve heard a lot of stories about the upcoming reboot of Spider-Man that make have helped ease some of our fears about the project.

And then a story like our next one comes along…

According to IGN, J. Jonah Jameson will not be a part of the upcoming reboot. The character has been a part of Spidey mythology since the beginning and was played by J.K. Simmons in the Sam Raimi Spidey movies.

Rumors centered on John Slattery or Sam Elliott taking over the role. But apparently, not so much.

In a related story, star Andrew Garfield says that he feels pressure to do the role of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man right. And not just from the hero’s legions of fans.

“I feel the pressure of my own inner four-year-old and that’s the biggest pressure I could ever come up against,” Garfield said. “I don’t need anyone else to tell me what a big deal it is because I’m Spider-Man’s biggest fan.”

Fans have been dissecting the recently released photo of Garfield in the Spidey outfit and have zeroed in on one detail–two metal devices on his wrists. This has led to debate on whether this means the reboot will return to the comic book continuity for the web shooters Spidey uses. In the comics, Peter Parker came up with the design for the web shooters and the webbing. The Raimi movies had them as a by-product of his bite by a radioactive spider.
