Shoppers were out looking for bargains on Black Friday last week.
And one of them was the newly released Kinect for the X-Box 360.
USA Today reports that sales of the new device have topped 2.5 million since its release a little over a month ago. And holiday shoppers on the biggest shopping day of the year helped the totals.
Analyst Michael Pachter said that expected sellouts could drive sales of 2.5 million Xbox 360-Kinect bundles and 2 million standalone Kinect sensors. Since then, Microsoft announced sales of 1 million Kinect units, with an expected 5 million to be sold by year-end.
“With sales already exceeding two and a half million units in just 25 days, we are on pace to reach our forecast of 5 million units sold to consumers this holiday,” said Don Mattrick, president of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment business, in the announcement.
Also in the announcement, Target merchandising vice president Nik Nayar said that “Kinect on Xbox 360 was a top performer at Target this weekend. … We expect Kinect will be a must-have gift this holiday season, so Target will continue to receive consistent shipments of Kinect throughout December. The hands-free, active gaming experience that Kinect offers is something that everyone in the family can enjoy.”
Earlier this week, Nintendo boasted about its own Black Friday weekend sales, announcing that it had sold a combined 1.5 million Wii and DS systems.
