Holden Says “Walking Dead” Gave Her Nightmares

Holden Says “Walking Dead” Gave Her Nightmares

November 30, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

Laurie-HoldenIf you’ve had a hard time watching “The Walking Dead,” imagine how actress Laurie Holden feels. The actress says working on the series has given her nightmares–and not just for the ramped up gore that is part of the universe of “the Dead.”

There are SPOILERS ahead for the last several episodes, so if you haven’t seen them, turn back now.

Holden says that the scenes surrounding the death of her character’s sister’s death were difficult for her and “emotionally upheaving”.

“I’ve had quite a few nightmares about being chased by walkers,” she writes on AMC’s blog. “I think it was so violent… doing that scene with Emma that I had a lot of disturbing dreams about that whole incident. It’s hard for it not to stay with you.”

However, Holden claimed that she had enjoyed filming the death sequence with Bell, calling it her “favorite scene”.

“I think we were given two takes and there was just massive amounts of people and machinery all around us and we would lie there covered in blood, holding hands, and just connecting,” she explained. “It sounds bizarre, but we created this bubble around us where nothing else existed or mattered. As dark and heartbreaking and awful as [the scene] was, it was a pretty special moment.”

That scene was really sad. Despite the fact that WD is a gory show, you still end up caring about the characters.

I cannot watch The Walking Dead before going to sleep. It is the only TV-show/movie to give me nightmares. Also World War Z is the only book gave me nightmares if I read it before going to sleep. Until I heard the Max Brooks interview I didn’t realize that zombies are the one monster that scares me. Well them and clowns coming out of the shower drain, but that’s a different story.

Yeah, zombies are the thing that keep me up at night too. I always try to watch a comedy afterwards 🙂
If there would ever be a real zombie attack… I would freak out so much I’d probably shoot myself. Too bad guns are a little hard to come by in Holland. 😛

I also had a zombie nightmare after watching that particular episode described above. I really do myself no favors by watching Dexter and then The Walking Dead on Sunday nights before I go to bed. Doesn’t make for a peaceful night’s sleep.

Yes, I have had walker nightmares, too! I wake up & reassure myself that the gun is in reaching distance just in case one comes through the window. Like Mark F. I also watch Dexter afterward. Not conducive to restful sleep.
