Lou Diamond Phillips Cracks Up “SGU” Alien

November 4, 2010 By Michael Hickerson 3 Comments

If you’re curious about where “SGU” is headed for the rest of season two, tune in to this week’s Slice of SciFi, either during our live recording tomorrow night or when the podcast goes live Saturday.

Until then, we’ve got a cool clip with Lou Diamond Philips to tide you over. The actor cracks up one of his alien counterparts in this outtake, courtesy of SyFy.

The alien was created later via CGI. According to Blastr, director Andy Mikita, visual effects supervisor Mark Savela and his visual effects team had to work together to create the gag scene.

I made a pretty funny joke just 2 crack up the crew,” Phillips tweeted. “@marksavela & crew took it to a whole new level. Love working w talented, funny people!”

As for Phillip’s joke, it was “Just LDP being funny when we were shooting and we ran with it,” tweeted Savela. “It was just a fun little thing we all wanted to do.”

Honestly, given the kind of characters Lou Diamond Philips plays it never occured to me he would have this kind of sense of humor. Well sir I say bravo!

Really? Did you see the episode of Psych with him as a guest? The deadpan was on target the entire episode, and the the little shirtless routine he did in the tag while Juliet sat there speechless was fall-down funny.

He’s also funny in the episode commentaries on NUMB3RS, and in a couple of the WSOP segments where they focused on him for a hand here and there.
