Trekkies are a nitpicky bunch. And they’re not afraid to tell you when you get a piece of continuity wrong.
In this case, it wasn’t even what many Trekkies would consider a minor continuity error. An Australian TV station mixed up who captained the Enterprise E (NCC-1701E). The station said it was commanded by Captain James T. Kirk when most “Trek” fans know it was Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
The story in question referred to a new book about British publisher Haynes printing an Owners’ Workshop Manual of the show’s USS Enterprise.
n a second article today, the site said: “[We] incorrectly stated that the Star Trek starship USS Enterprise-E, otherwise known as model NNC-1701-E, was the successor to Captain Kirk’s original USS Enterprise.
“It has since been brought to our attention that the NNC-1701-E in fact came two models after Captain Kirk retired and was under the command of Captain Jean Luc Picard.
“There was no intention whatsoever to suggest Captain Kirk may have commanded the Galaxy Class Starships Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E.”
It continued: “There were also some concerns about whether the incorrect use of the term ‘hyperspace’ in describing warp drive technology may harm the original Star Trek concept.
“No malice was intended and a correction to the original article will be made. We also agree that Patrick Stewart is a handsome man, a sentiment expressed by several readers.”
However, a comment from one reader on the second article read: “It’s NCC-1701 not NNC – you idiots.”

So many things wrong with this story, it’s not even funny.

Among them – The E-E was only two models after Kirk? Hmm, Kirk was E, and E-A. Let’s check our ABCs here a bit. A, B, C. So Picard was the captain of the Enterprise C? No, that doesn’t make sense. C plus E are not the same. Could they have meant FOUR ships? So they suck at their ABCs and math. Great job there, tv station.
Did they get anything right? Or is Brian running the tv station now?

Australian free-to-air TV stations are some of the dumbest groups of people you’ll ever come across. Trust me on this.
Chris (from Australia) says
It wasn’t a TV station it was a newspaper and it was a mock article anyway.

When you’re already in the hole, stop digging…
After Kirk’s original Enterprise, there was the refit, A, B, C, D and E. Didn’t Kirk take over the Enterprise-B from Harriman temporarily? That would make the C, D and E ones he didn’t command.
The 1701-E is a Sovereign class, not Galaxy.
Michael Falkner says
Kirk never commanded the 1701-B. Harriman was going to transfer command, and Kirk sat in the seat, then reconsidered. He told Harriman that his place was on the bridge, then went to Engineering.
