The zombies are a huge hit!
AMC’s first night of “The Walking Dead” delivered huge ratings for the cable outlet.
The first episode drew 5.2 million viewers Sunday evening for a 3.3 rating. It was the largest non-sports viewing audience for a cable show this year and the largest audience in AMC history.
It’s numbers were well above AMC’s two critically acclaimed, Emmy-winning hits “Breaking Bad” and “Mad Men.”
“It’s a good day to be dead. We are so proud of this series, its depth of storytelling and the remarkable talent attached,” said Charlie Collier, AMC’s president. “As the network dedicated to bringing viewers the best stories on television, we are so pleased to have the opportunity with ‘The Walking Dead’ to raise the bar within this popular genre and continue our commitment to being the home of premium television on basic cable.”
“’The Walking Dead’ is that rare piece of programming that works on so many levels. It is legitimately great storytelling that is not only highly entertaining, but incredibly thought provoking as well. People who are familiar with the comic books know what’s coming, but suffice it to say, this is only the beginning of a long, intense, and powerful ride. Long live The Walking Dead,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s SVP of original programming, production and digital content.

Watched it on DVR this morning, I really liked it. Good acting, shot well and the effects were spot on. It borrowed a little from 28 Days Later with the lead role waking up in the hospital but who cares. I think AMC has a possible hit on their hands as long as they don’t mess it up.
2 thumbs up !!!

As a fan of the graphic novels, I can say they hit all the right beats. In fact, I found the show leaving me a little breathless and it’s a whole lot creepier and atmospheric than I expected. At no time watching this, do you ever feel “safe.”
It’s unbelievably good so far and the previews for the upcoming shows look like it’s going to be more of the same. If you at all a fan of zombies, creepy/scary, or just great stroytelling, this might just be the one for you.
