Will Jon Hamm Be The Next Man of Steel?

Will Jon Hamm Be The Next Man of Steel?

September 14, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 6 Comments

jonhamm2Actor Jon Hamm has garnered critical praise and Emmy nominations for his work as Don Draper on AMC’s “Mad Men.”

And now, Hamm is rumored to be the front-runner to step into the boots filled by George Reeves, Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh as Superman.

According to CinemaBlend, sources close to the proposed Superman reboot have Hamm as the front runner for the role.

The reboot of the franchise is under the leadership of Christopher Nolan and has a script from David Goyer, both of whom worked on “The Dark Knight.” No word yet on if any official conversations with Hamm have taken place.

Hamm has been asked about the role before and told MTV News a few months ago that he sees playing the Man of Steel as “tricky.”

“It’s a tricky road to go down with some of those heroes, because they’re not flawed. Superman is Superman — he’s invincible, so where’s the drama?,” he said.

One factor that may work against Hamm is his age. The actor is 39, which is older than Routh or Reeve were when they stepped into the role.

I’m still a little worried about a Nolan-directed Superman film. He’s a genius filmmaker, but if any superhero needs to *not* be dark, its Supes.

I’ll be so glad if this is true. I do not want the superman franchise to go the same way as Spiderman. We’ve already had teeny-bopper superman. It is called Smallville.

As much as I enjoy both Jon Hamm and the Superman mythos, I just can’t see Hamm as Superman. I mean, yes, he has the square-jawed look and can rock a suit as necessary for the Clark Kent side of things, but… I don’t know. He doesn’t seem right for the role somehow. If it happens and I’m wrong, I’ll be happy, though.

As far as I am concerned there can be no other choice for Superman than TOM WELLING! He deserves to play Superman……He has only been working up to it for the past 10 years!

Pleease…..not Tom Welling. I love him in Smallville, but not for any Superman movie. And pleease….NOT Jon Hamm! I mean…the man’s balding for gawd’s sake!!! For me, it can only be Brandon Routh on the silver screen. He knocked it outta the park in Superman Returns. You’re right…..the script coulda been better and yes, you’re right again….Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane was a little iffy, but Brandon Routh was exactly on the money. If anyone deserves a shot at the new movie, it’s him.

Don’t get me wrong: I like Tom Welling in Smallville, but unless he has more acting chops than he’s shown there, he won’t be able to carry a movie.
