SyFy Releases American-ized “Being Human” Trailer

September 13, 2010 By News Droid 12 Comments

On this week’s voice mail show, Mike, Sam and Brian talked about the BBC production of “Being Human.”  (If you’re not watching, you should be!)

As we’ve reported in the past, SyFy is working on an American version of the hit BBC series.

And they’ve released a preview trailer for it.

You can check it out on Blastr.

Now that trailer was certainly spoiler free…..ahhh, pretty much free of everything. :).

I love the BBC version and will give this US one a shot as well, but it will take some to be as good as the original, but ABC pulled it off with Life on Mars so perhaps SyFy can do the same with this series as well.

SO hopeful SyFy does this justice. I love the original and the idea of them screwing with it makes me very nervous.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

oh please, oh please, don’t screw this up. the original is such a great show. why doesn’t syfy just air it instead of trying to reimagine it?

although… i loved the BBC’s The Office and then (eventually) came to appreciate the american version. i also dug the american LIfe on Mars. so maybe there’s hope.

Well that trailer told us nothing.

Ten bucks they try to work wrasslin’ into it.

It’ll be hard to top the original but it would probably not be a good idea ratings wise to re-air the British version on Scifi with BBC America already airing it. Personally I hope they don’t copy it too closely. It they can re-imagine it as well as they did Battlestar Galactica they may have a hit on their hands.

    Meh.
That having been said, while I *liked* the U.S. version of “Life on Mars”, the BBC version was *LIGHT YEARS* better.
This new version of “Being Human” might actually be OK, but being that it is on accessible cable will mean that the show will have its teeth removed. (No pun intended.)
    Language? Hardly.
    Nudity? Please.
    Sex? Are ya kidding me?
I’ll give this version at least half the season. If it bugs me, I won’t watch again.
Thanks to BT Airlines, I saw the 1st…and 2nd seasons when they aired in the UK. (And I’ll just say: Daaamn!) I know what the show is supposed to be like.
Seeing BBC America (who I thought would only cut for commercial insertion) edit their own show for content (aka for The Puritans Across The Pond)) broke my heart.
If it has to be done, I would rather see an Americanized “Being Human” on FX at 10pm, like “Nip/Tuck” and “Rescue Me”.
Imagine if BSG had had that kind of freedom.
    *sigh*

Are these shows really that hard for you guys to watch in the original format?

You don’t see Britishised versions of Star Wars of the Matrix….

OH Ringsting if only it were so!!!!

Unfortunately the TV Execs always have to dumb it down for us stupid Americans!!!!! The truth is that it can go either way depending on which genre you are talking about. Comedy and Drama of the UK nature do not go over really big here. Than can catch on that is true but as a rule US is dumber than the UK. Then you thrown in the double standard on sexual issues and look out!!! I generally find the UK versions much better on every topic in every genre over US junk.

i feel so torn. I’ll give SyFy a chance, but I don’t really have high expectations. Brit to US remakes can work. example: Queer as Folk and the Office. but those are completely different networks than eachother and again from SyFy, who has a rep. we shall see. either way, i’m not giving up my BBC America shows. 🙂

The cast of the American Being Human looks entirely too “fluff” and cookie cutter; typical, CW-style. From the teaser, there looks to be nothing original about the show and you can almost readily guess it will be a cheeseball with these actors. For some reason, when it comes to British remakes like this, American actors think it’s cute and so must be their acting style. I’m not sure how to fully explain myself there, but I believe you all will have a few opportunities to find out when watching this show.
