It’s been a while since we heard much about SyFy’s plans to develop more “Battlestar Galactica.” While the cable outlet does have “Caprica,” there were reports that the network was looking into more visits to the universe in the near future.
One of those first looks will be a web-based series that follows William “Husker” Adama during the Cylon War. The Chicago Tribune reports that the series will be 10 on-line episodes, running about 9 minutes each.
According to Mark Stern, Syfy’s executive vice president of original programming and the co-head of original content for Universal Cable Productions, “Battlestar Galactica” and “Caprica” co-executive producer Michael Taylor will write the the script for the new venture.
“Blood & Chrome” is “about a young man’s initiation into war: both the realities of war as fought by soldiers on the ground (and in Battlestars and Vipers), and the somewhat less real version portrayed in the media,” according to Taylor.
“Blood & Chrome” would consist of nine or 10 episodes of nine or 10 minutes each, and it would make use of cutting-edge digital technology and special effects to depict the Cylon War. If it is greenlit to production, it will be filmed using green screens and virtual sets, not unlike Syfy’s “Sanctuary” or James Cameron’s “Avatar.” Before “Battlestar Galactica” ended, high-tech scans were made of all the show’s sets, so that the special-effects team will be able to re-create them (possibly even in 3D).
Why not just come up with somthing new?
Because that would be way too much work, and not as much of a sure thing that folks would watch. Sadly, originality is not the safe bet 🙁
Is this actually new content or the webisodes they filmed during the final season and ended up integrating into the series instead?
I agree- By all means use the same creative folks, but move on to something new.

Man, people are fickle. I remember back when the Razor Flashbacks were airing prior to RAZOR, everyone cried that they were so cool, but soooo short. People were saying we want to see more of 1CW and Young Adama. Now, that it’s happening everyone is moping about it. I think regardless of what you get, your just going to complain about not having the opposite. I, personally, can’t wait for this. I miss Galactica. At least wait till you see it. It might be good. Then, all of you will be saying, “I have to admit, at first I was against this, but….blah blah blah”. When Galactica was first announced everyone cried about it being blasphemous to TOS. Sheeez. Mopey, Mopey, Mopey.

I’d always been on board with the new series from the time they started announcing casting, knowing that there’s plenty of room for it in my heart beside the deep love for the original BSG (says she who once gave Herb Jefferson Jr a hug and a big kiss on the cheek, and who was once rendered speechless during an interview by a compliment from Richard Hatch).
I’m probably going to be a Caprica apologist, but I will give this new project more than it’s fair shake as well. Because.
I’ll at least give it a chance before judging it, because unlike some, I am not a smug arsehole.
Summer: I’ll take it one step further. I really like Caprica. It’s my favorite non-British, non-Stargate SF series on TV right now.

JJ–Razaer was made while the series was still on the air. I was not really looking forward to that, ether. I was not dreading it, I just simply really did not care. In the same way, I really have not gotten into Caperica.
The fact that this is going to focus on the Cylon war is a good sign. I’ll definitely give this a try.
