Crossovers on “Stargate” are nothing new.
We’ve already seen several “SG1” alums on season one of “SG:U.” But when the series returns for season two, we’ll get a full crossover between the two “Stargate” spin-offs, “Universe” and “Atlantis.”
Producer Joseph Mallozzi confirmed the news on his blog.
“With word from producer John G. Lenic that the deals have been closed on those Atlantis alums, we can now move forward on the script, secure in the knowledge that both extra-special guest stars will actually be on hand to say the dialogue written specifically for them,” he writes. “Great news for fans of the old series.”
“There was a reluctance to move ahead with an SGA crossover, particularly on my part, because the feeling was it would step on the timing of the SGA movie, Stargate: Extinction, the events of which directly proceed the Atlantis series finale, Enemy at the Gate. But given the delay on the movie front and the ideal premise pitched out by Remi Aubuchon and Brad Wright, it was decided to go ahead with the crossover,” he adds.
No word yet on when or how the cross-over will air in the upcoming season (that based on the cliffhanger and how the show was hitting it out of the park in the second half of season one, can’t come soon enough!)
We’ll keep you up to date on details as we get them.

Until they get better writers, I’ll continue to stay away. I just feel bad for the actors, because they’re trying, but they’re given such utter dreck to work with, there’s only so much they can do.

Since we first saw the stones, I’ve been dieing to see the hyper-nova explosion when the egos of Rush and McKay meet…

kurt: Oh me too. I can’t wait. Mitch from Omaha must be watching another show with a title similar to Stargate Universe and got confused.

Another idea I don’t like. SGU stands on it’s own, no need to add Ronon with kung-fu grip. Putting some of the SGA folks on Destiny could be like putting Popeye on the Red October. But I didn’t like the idea of the Lucian alliance, still don’t, but they are still managing to tell a good story. It’s just losing a bit of the magic from the first 12 episodes.

The SG1 characters haven’t detracted from the show as of yet….I don’t think that the Atlantis ones will either nevertheless I do agree with Skiznot that SGU does stand on it’s own…really no need for all the crossovers. The writing and acting has been superb.

I think we see here the continuation of a great plot hole. Since it is extremely likely that the Atlantis database would have all the specs and codes for Destiny, I find it extremely lame that they haven’t gotten in touch with McKay, et al. before this. Or at least made mention of the fact.
But I have to disagree with many of the above. The writing has been horrific. Glaring plot holes, and lousy melodrama. The premise of the season finale was a prime example. After all, where is the logic in trying to strand yourself aboard an antique and failing vessel on the other side of the known universe? I have seen no evidence that the Lucien Alliance goons had any idea of how to return from Destiny once they got there. It’s a suicide mission with no possibility of any worthwhile gain.

Considering the Stargate is such an integrated universe, I don’t mind seeing alumn and series melding. However, I fear that SGU will become the gateway to the other properties and lose it’s own identity. Using SGU to resolve or perpetuate old storylines was one of the things that annoyed me about Atlantis. However, as long as they continue to develop their own mythos, I’ll continue to watch. I love this show and the writting has been pretty spectacular so far. So, I’m cautiously optimistic.

I think Universe integrated guest characters from elsewhere in the franchise really well in the first season, and expect they’ll continue to do so in the coming year. Do they “need” to bring in actors / characters from SG-1 and Atlantis? Not necessarily. There were plenty of original guest characters who also worked very nicely. But I think it helps to tie Universe into the larger Stargate world and rewards longtime fans of all three series (like myself) with a glimpse of what old favorites are up to after the end of their own series.
Admittedly, I’m a continuity geek, so seeing that Gen. O’Neill is still in charge of Homeworld Security — and that his former teammates are still his go-to guys, no matter what their current assignment — is a lot of fun for me. Fans who are solely fans of Universe may feel differently.

Well, the thing is, the people writing for “SGU” are the same people who wrote for the other shows.
“SGU stands on it’s own.”
I guess. But my problem is that I’m more interested in what Sheppard and McKay and all the rest of the Atlantis people are doing at the moment more than what’s happening on the Destiny, even though nothing about them is being shown. Having a crossover will relieve a bit of my curiosity about that.
“It’s just losing a bit of the magic from the first 12 episodes.”
What?! No way. The second half of the season is WAY better than the first half … but still has a ways to go before I can say it’s as good as “SG-1” or “Atlantis”.

My bad I should have said.
(In my opinion )It’s losing some of the magic from the first 12 episodes. Its seems a new rare thing to debate about half seasons, the second half did have some phenomenal episodes but it also had the worst episode (in my opinion), “Pain” and basically most of my complaints come in the second half. The planet side part of the “Human” episode was lame (in my opinion) but it grew into a great arc in the next episodes. By losing the magic I just meant I’m much less interested in corridor battles with bad guys in black leather than I am in them learning how to survive and exploring destiny and whatever current galaxy they are in.
I was able to say it was better than SG-1 or Atlantis by the 5th episode.

The Lucien Alliance had the resources to setup another icarus planet, they may have just been proud enough to think they could gain control of Destiny and use it to their own ends. The big issue the Lucian Alliance is that the Earth humans hold all the cards when it comes to salvaged Ancient tech. Brainwashed Telford tried to destroy destiny so Earth wouldn’t have another Atlantis sized super weapon. There’s no question as to why they would want the ship, the only question is if it is realistic for them to think they can fix it and bring it home.

Count me in as one who much prefers to know what former characters are up too, rather than the SGU ones. If this show has the same writers, I would be shocked. Because something is missing. If it is the same writers, perhaps they are out of their element with SGU.
I’m with Omni on this. The show is a mess. But I’ll keep watching, because it’s Stargate, dumb me.
I do admit that the show was a bit more fun to watch in the 2nd half – plot holes ignored.
