When it comes to the box-office, animated movies are the king this summer. “Toy Story 3” is the top grossing film of the summer and the year and this week the animated comedy “Despicable Me” took the top spot, earning $60.1 million in box-office sales.
The debut was $20 million more than predicted by Hollywood experts. While the film isn’t part of a franchise, many in Hollywood expect a sequel announcement to come soon.
In second place was “Twilight: Eclipse”, fall 49% from last week and taking in $33.4 million. Since its debut, the movie has raked in $237 million.
Third place was held by another debut, “Predators.” The film took in $25.3 million.
Fourth place went to “Toy Story 3” with $22 million, lifting its total to $340.2 million.
In fifth was “Avatar: The Last Airbender” with $17.2 million. That took the film over $100 million in it second week.
