SyFy Renews “Ghost Hunters”

SyFy Renews “Ghost Hunters”

June 14, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 8 Comments

SyFy has signed off for a seventh season of the reality series, “Ghost Hunters.”

The new season will run 25 episodes and begin production later this year.

Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson will resume their roles as the leaders of TAPS (the Atlantic Paranormal Society), which investigates reports of paranormal activity.

Since debuting in 2004, “Hunters” has launched two spinoffs, “Ghost Hunters Academy” and “Ghost Hunters International,” and inspired countless imitators on rival networks. The show has become Syfy’s longest-running original series.

The first half of Season 6 averaged 2.6 million viewers, which put Syfy as the top-rated cable network in the “Hunters” time slot.

    Meh.

You know, I’ve enjoyed the franchise in the past, but I really feel like this has run its course. None of them seem particularly excited or invested in this anymore, and there’s precious little science or debunking attempted anymore.

I was a lot more excited by the Mythbusters renewal!

Whoopadee-friggin-doooo! We tried to watch an episode when it first came on and found it boring like most reality TV. It seemed like it was all about the conflict between the team members rather than actually finding any proof of paranormal activity. I hate that sort of show.

I found myself watching a handful of Ghost Labs episodes, and enjoying the “hunting” on that show more than on GH. Those Ghost Labs guys seem to be a lot more excited when they find something that’s not easily identified or explained away… that alone makes it more entertaining for me.

Summer: True, but their science is pitiable, unfortunately. For sheer entertainment value, I prefer the Ghost Adventures bunch. They’re absolutely nuts. I think the main guy, Zak, drinks about 17 Monster energy drinks before locking himself in locations for the night…LOL!

But who am I kidding…I watch these shows for the sheer pleasure of pointing out all the ways they’re doing it wrong…;)

The Ghost Adventures crew *is* insane… those are the guys you want to party with. But if I wanted to try my hand at ghost hunting, I think I’d tag along with the Ghost Labs guys… a bunch a wacky Texans in a tricked out multimedia RV? Oh yeah 🙂

Hey, there we go… what shows would you want to tag along with for an episode of filming? For me, I think it’d be Meteorite Men, Destination Truth, Punkin Chunkin, and MythBusters.
