After months of speculation and debate, NBC pulled the plug today on “Heroes.”
The series had fallen off in both ratings and critical acclaim from its first season and saw steadily declining viewership.
There was discussion that NBC might allow the show to come back for a final season. There may be a two-hour movie to wrap up the dangling plot threads from the show.
NBC will announce its full 2010-11 schedule Monday.
Not surprised. I’m a fan of the show, but I won’t feel like I’m missing something if it doesn’t come back.
I loved the interview I heard once, where the reporter asked where they came up with ideas for the plot. “Oh, we just throw things out there and see what sticks to the wall.”
This is why Tim stopped watch this crap in season two and traded the two box sets in on a couple good cd’s. Lost money on the deal, sure; but no longer need to spray air freshener though out the house now. Too harsh?

“…The series had fallen off in both ratings and critical acclaim from its first season and saw steadily declining viewership…”
Now THATS a reason to cancel a show – WTF took so long to get rid of this PIECE OF GARBAGE?
Yet we see other (great) shows get cut down after a handful of episodes.
I’ll never understand Hollywood.
Wow… I thought this had been cancelled ages ago… It went from all of the UK talking about it in S1 to nobody mentioning it anywhere for the last couple of years…
Hopefully they’ll spend the budget on making something decent
All I can say is that’s it’s about time…not sorry to see it go at all. The only program I still watch on the non-cable channels is Lost and with it wrapping up this season I guess I’m done. Merlin was the only thing that I liked and they bumped that to syfy…it along with Primeval, Doctor Who, and Being Human has me turning more and more to British television for entertainment. America with the exception of Lost seems to have lost it’s imagination.
About time they put the poor thing out of its misery. I loved the first season or two but after that it turned into a cure for insomnia.
People, get a grip. NBC canceled Heroes. They didn’t cure cancer. The level of glee that people have for a TV show they hadn’t watched in a year more getting canned? Suggests to me that said people lead very, VERY empty lives.
Arkle, sweetie… remember Babylon Podcast?
That’s a podcast about Babylon 5 that’s about to drop it’s 200th episode.
Yep… over 200 hours of analysis and argument over a show that went off the air in 1998. A show that had a spinoff that only lasted half a season and ended in 1999, that had millions of fans clamoring for more stories for nearly a decade and finally had a bone thrown their way with a direct to DVD movie in 2007. And we have at least another 30-40 hours of strong podcast content to create, with our listeners begging us to find a way to continue going even longer.
We all have our own special empty space, filled by one obsession or several 🙂
YAY!!!!!! I got an idea, how about putting something good on now.
Darcy
Yo Arkle,
Lighten up Francis. Wow.
Darcy
Hey Summer…Babylon 5 lasted five years…
I know you know that but it was funny and I am a jerk
opps read that wrong…it’s late lol
Darcy: Um, did you read my post? Telling people to lighten up was the point. NBC canceled a show they didn’t like and probably didn’t even watch the last season of, and they’re acting like Bin Laden was just captured.
While not surprised, I will miss the show… even though it got pretty bad. Season 4 was better, but… yeah, it got pretty bad.
On nielsen’s alone, yeah it was a failure.

Actually we all read it here and I would have to agree, people get involved with a show or movie, even if it is bad. I still can not wrap my head around anyone liking Cloverfield or seeing Abrams as anything but a hack. But that’s me. To say people who liked Heros have empty lives is a bit harsh dude.
I would suggest looking at it Darcy’s way, now that it is off; perhaps they fill the slot with something good like another reality tv show or a Jersey shore spin off.
Tim
I am being sarcastic of course. But that won’t stop them.
Arkle, I think you’re sort of missing the point of most everyone’s reactions here. When the first season aired we were given a slate of stories that were amazing. We were given fantastic characters thrown in even more fantastic situations. We not only invested our time, but our emotions into this show. This is something sci-fi fans do, and when that investment is betrayed by either a network, writers, or production staff, we react to that with just as much intensity.
Our reactions here are a direct correlation to the love we had for the first year. We’re pissed off at the those in charge of the show for giving us crap from the 2nd season and on. I gave them my time (and some of the sponsors my money) during the first year and even into the second year, and I was repaid by some of the worst stories I had ever watched. For that reason I’m quite pleased that it was cancelled!!!
They, whoever they are, do say the line between love and hate is mighty thin, so I’m agreeing with Ben that it’s the jilted viewers, once fierce champions for the show, who are likely to have the strongest reaction to the news.
You have to care before you can hate.
(hence why I don’t hate anyone)
Tim: Um, I said the people who were so gleeful about it’s cancellation had empty lives. I still liked the show. I posted an article that relates to what I was talking about in the Forums. I just don’t get why for so many people, just not watching a show they don’t like isn’t enough.
