Reboot Rage: “Monster Squad”

Reboot Rage: “Monster Squad”

March 19, 2010 By Michael Hickerson 5 Comments

Another day, another reboot.

This time, it’s the cult classic from the 80’s “Monster Squad.”

Deadline Hollywood confirmed this week that Paramount has given the green light to a new version of the film.  Original producer Rob Cohen is set to direct.

Cohen will produce with Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, and they’re meeting with writers.

A group of kids who worship the classic monsters suddenly discover that Dracula is in town, and he’s got his pals Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Gill Man and The Mummy with him. The kids must stop their efforts to find an amulet that will give the creatures control of the world.

Um, Frankenstein’s monster sided with the kids as I remember it.

I guess I’m showing my age here, but to me, Monster Squad is a 1970’s Saturday morning live action show starring Fred Grandy about a museum night watchman who animates the wax statues of Drac, Frankie and the Wolfman to fight crime:

I was mad when the 80’s movie first came out because they stole the name! 🙂

I loved this movie, probably more than The Goonies, because I loved the classic monster movies.

I don’t think they can do this movie justice.

Arkle is correct, Frankenstein was found by Dracula but fell out of the plane and was found by the kids first. In many incarnations, Frankenstein has been a misunderstood monster who never wanted to hurt anyone. I assume this is taken from Mary Shelley’s classic.

The movie was great and the 20th anniversary DVD/Blu-Ray is a great tribute to this film with a retrospective with the surviving actors!

    Best line: Wolfman’s got nards!

Seriously folks… it was a campy 80’s flick, that while loved by some, is not gospel… rebbot or not, as long as they keep the fun of the original… who cares that it’s being remade for a more modern day audience? All that was 80’s nostalgia was not gold. *sheesh*

If they leave out “Wolfman gots nards!”, I will be very pissed!!!
