Justice Society Will Return to “Smallville”

March 16, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 9 Comments

If you liked seeing Hawkman, Captain Fate and other members of the Justice Society on “Smallville,” we have some good news. Writer Geoff Johns says the group will return before the series completes its current season.

According to a report from last weekend’s Emerald City Comic-Con at Comics Alliance, Johns said that “[The JSA] do appear again at the end of season on ‘Smallville.'” Johns also added “The hope is for every DC character to appear outside the comic books. Correctly.”

Back in November, Michael Shanks — the actor who portrayed Hawkman — hinted that he might return in future episodes as a mentor to Clark Kent.

“Clark and his friends are figuring out what their destinies will be, so there is a ripe opportunity for the Justice Society who had been there done that to offer some tough love teaching,” said Shanks.“The way things land at the end of it all, there’s an open door for Carter Hall to be revisited and possibly be part of further mentoring Clark down the road.”

Johns has also recently hinted that Darkseid and the dark gods of Apokolips may appear next season on “Smallville.”

Smallville lends itself to may spin offs like the Justice Society and The Legion of Super Heroes. Would love to see the latter happen unless Warner Brothers can do a big budget Legion film

That’s excellent news. Smallville has ups and downs, but they are very, I dunno, earnest and respectful when they bring in elements of the DC universe, with nods to the existing canon as they establish their own mythology. I enjoyed the recent JSA-centric episode, I felt it had heart.

I’d like to see them introduce New Genesis/Apokolips into the Smallville story.

Love what they did with the JSA, but considering what they did with Doomsday, I’m afraid of what they might do with Darkseid.

    They meant Doctor Fate.

Captain Fate is part of the Marvel Universe.

Good to see Michael Shanks again, but he needs to stop with the gruff voice. It didn’t work for Christian Bale and it didn’t work here.

Wow, i’m so excited about the justice society returning back to smallville again,
i really loved them in “Absolute Justice” hope they have at least one extra hero
added to the mix, i like to see Jay Garrick the original FLASH suit up & join Hawkman & Stargirl, i think a new Dr. Fate will be introduced maybe ‘Chloe”
we will just have to wait & see what happens! as far as the JLA goes i like to see at least Aquaman or Zantanna with Martian manhunter, Green Arrow & Clark Kent, if this takes place as the season final i can almost bet it will be continued
into next season, who knows this season’s final could have a surprise villian like “DARKSEID” coming in at the end as our heroes & smallville fans might be in for an amazing explosive season final!

You know, Oliver Queen does that too when he’s being the Green Arrow. Apparently, it’s a popular thing to do. I just hope Clark doesn’t start doing it, though.

… Or they could finally let Smallville end, and add Clark to newly reinvigorated Justice Society in a spin-off, allowing the focus to become a bit more about being a hero and let Tom Welling behind the camera more by focusing less on just Clark.

But no, alas the dead horse still has a bit of substance left to beat. 8D
