Give the writing staff of “Stargate: Universe” some credit. Despite being hammered by certain segments of the fan community, they still continue to take an active part in on-line discussions and have thrown down the gauntlet to the fans.
In a recent blog post, producer and writer Joseph Mallozzi asked fans to comment on where they’d like to see things go in the next season of “Stargate: Universe.”
Mallozzi asked the fans for feedback on five questions. They are:
So, as we prep for the show’s second season – and keeping in mind you haven’t seen the more action-oriented back half of season one – I’d like to know:
1. Which character would you like to see explored more?
2. What aspect of the show would you like to see exploited more?
3. What aspect of the show would prefer to see minimized?
4. What was your favorite “story moment” from the first half of SGU’s first season?
5. What element (I’m leaving this one wide open) would you like to see added to the series as a whole?
If you’d like to weigh in on the debate, you can do so HERE.
You can also comment on the story below in our comments section, though its less likely Mazzolli will see them.

Why bother? He just deletes the posts he doesn’t agree with. SG:U is an utter disgrace. It is nothing more than Stargate: Enterprise. So much set-up. So much promise. So little reward.
Omni says
What I’d like to see is them to stop with the boring melodrama and to quit stomping all over cannon. In one of the last episodes they mention that there is a code that will unlock helm control. Why not contact Earth and have someone look up the full engineering specs of the ship and the code in the Atlantis database? As far as we know Atlantis is still floating in Frisco Bay.
Arkle says
Bad idea dudes! The Heroes writers paid attention to people on the Internet and look where it got them? I still like the show overall, but there are a few characters I am really ready to see get put on a bus. I don’t want to see that happen to SG:U, which is a great show as is.
Kyle Nin says
“Bad idea dudes! The Heroes writers paid attention to people on the Internet and look where it got them?”
Yeah, but “Heroes” started off good. “SGU” didn’t. The only way they could go is up.
Gary from Jacksonville says
I agree omni. I think using for the stones for purposes like getting info otherwise unavailable would be a great use of them.
The idea of the Dr. Rush being needing to figure out everything on his own really stretches credulity when they have access to people on earth who can help work on their problems.
The soap opera feel to the show needs to go. Once in a while is ok, but they went to that well too often in season one.
Skiznot says
My worst fear is they start listening to “fans” who clearly aren’t fans of the show but fans of other Stargate Shows and want to go back to the campy boyscout formula. SGU started off WAY better than any other Stargate Shows. Not perfect but better than the other two by far.
KeiranHalcyon says
“The idea of the Dr. Rush being needing to figure out everything on his own really stretches credulity when they have access to people on earth who can help work on their problems.”
No kidding. Why hasn’t Col. Carter shown up yet? (Maybe because Dr. Rush is even more irritating to work with than Dr. McKay.)
Skiznot says
BTW seasons 3 and 4 of Enterprise were some of the Best ST IMO so it would be a flattering comparison.
Hilsto says
Well, at least the SGU haters will feel like they’ve accomplished something today. Their self esteem will be through the roof.
Arkle says
Hilsto: Agreed. These are the type of people who feel like failures if they’ve gone the whole day without hurting someone’s feeling.
Kyle Nin says
“SGU started off WAY better than any other Stargate Shows.”
Excuse me, what? “Rising” was clearly the best of the three premieres. That episode alone was better than the first ten episodes of SGU.
The show really needs to be Stargate. The way it is now, it pales in comparison to the other two shows. It’s like they took the best stuff (action, adventure, humor) and just ripped them out, and SGU is the husk that’s left behind.
reppoHssarg says
“Warning! Danger Eli!” Fix needed for SGU: a robot. They already have a doctor smith-like character.
Andrew McDonald says
“The show really needs to be Stargate.”
WTF????? Do we really need or want more of the same? I enjoyed SG1. I enjoyed SGA. Do I want a third series of “more of the same”? No. I don’t.
What do you do, watch the same movie or TV show over and over again? Must be pretty boring there.
Dave says
Have you noticed that Pro Stargate Universe poster have very little to say why SGU is so good & instead spend their time denigrating the people who dislike it? For the life of me I cannot think why many suggestions have been made from them being plants of MGM to try & shame the anti’s into being quiet to people lashing out due to their insecurity at being in a minority.
The premise of SGU was good & despite of my negative feelings due to the cancellation of Atlantis I desprately wanted to be wrong & like it. Yes it has Stargate in the title but thats it, they have not built on the Stargate canon & Legacy by all means take the Stargate franchise in a new direction but to totally abandon the aspects of Stargate that the fans loved & to then tell them it is the fans fault they do not like the series not the producers is arrogant & insensitive.
So what don’t I like about it. 1, Character developement for it’s own sake at the expense of story. 2, Over using to the point of boredom of various gimicks, the stone communicators & Kino’s these plot devices should support the story not be the story. 3 inconsistencies with the SG1 & SGA for example the seeder ship & Destiny presumably date after or the same time as the Milky Way & Pegasus gate netwoks yet the Stargate on Destiny seem remakably short ranged surely it should be able to access all the gates in that Galaxy but no they have turned it into a startrek transporter! There is a lot more the above I give just as examples.
Lets be straight there was always going to be a season 2 that was agreed when the SGU was given the go ahead so the dramatic renewed for season 2 hype was just more spin that this show seems to generate. This recent announcement is obviously a belated attempt to get the old fans back after 1/2 a season of hype, spin & faked viewing figures (Comparing the on the night figures of Atlantis with the combined viewing & 7 day PVR of SGU is not like for like it is desperation). The very lage mid season gap is obviously to allow some serious rewriting after all every other Scifi show including the V & Flash Foward will be back long before SGU & they both will have new writers & producers!
I seriously hope SGU’s producers listen to the fans after cancelling the Atlantis series & movie to finance SGU as for myself I have watched every SGU so far & found only 1 episode even remotely enjoyable. I hope season 1 part 2 picks up if it does not I am not even going to bother giving season 2 the benefit of the doubt after the treatment it’s producers have given the Stargate franchises loyal fans

I hope he does not listen to the SGU Tea Baggers!!!!

“Have you noticed that Pro Stargate Universe poster have very little to say why SGU is so good & instead spend their time denigrating the people who dislike it?”
I’ve seen plenty of well composed post from people who like SGU. I have also seen the same from people who don’t like it. I’ve had personal attacks against me and have actually been called a stealth marketer and that’s just rediculous. So just for you I’ll give a few reasons.
I like:
The Exo-planetary spectulation: I.E. some indication on how hard it would be to find planets that are compatible with humans that eveolved in a completely different biosphere.
I like the sense of wonder: I really feel like anything can happen on the other side of that gate, instead of another pine forest with humans in costumes leftover from Xena.
I like the believable characters and more realistic acting performances that further suspend my disbelief.
That’s just off the top of my head. I have seen people who were mean on both sides and that’s unfortunate. The only reason I end up attacking SG1 & SGA is because I really don’t wan’t SGU to take a step back. They were fine for what they were but I’m ready for something different. I’m a fan of SGU for the very reasons that it is different. I almost wish it wasn’t called stargate so we wouldn’t have to worry about fans of completely different shows trying to get my favorite new Sci-fi show cancelled.
Still all this talk and I still might end up hating the show by the end of season two depending on what they do with it but I’m really on board with the first 10 episodes. Can’t wait for it to start up again. Fringe and Chuck are nice but I gotta have my space ships!
Andrew McDonald says
@Skiznot: Thanks. That reflects my feelings exactly. SGU is a different show and that is a good thing.
To all the haters the solution is easy. STOP WATCHING IT! And more importantly stop telling me how bad you think it is. I don’t believe you so you might as well yell at the wall.
I don’t watch “Dancing with the Stars” because it’s not my kind of show (Sorry Sam). But I don’t spend my days bashing it. Why? Because I don’t really care about it.
The Slice gang was raving about “The Colony”. I never tuned in. Personally I believe any situation where a) people know they aren’t really going to die regardless of how scary the situation might seem and b) people know they are on camera, changes the behavior of the participants and thus is not a valid experiment.
But did I log on here every day and tell people it was crap and that it should be taken off the air? No I did not.
So to all of you that don’t like SGU, just stop watching and stop bitching about it. If ratings fall then it will be canceled and then SyFy can put on something that requires less brain power to comprehend, like their Saturday night movies.

WOW- SG brings out the comments like almost no other in all versions.
OK- I will say what I like-
I like that it is not SGA-OOP’s, I digressed, sorry as I still have a bad taste in my moutn form SGA 🙂 I loved SG-1 with both casts and wished it would have stayetd on but hey-nothing lasts forever!!!!
Now Back to SGU-
I like that it is different.
I like watching the characters grow and the relationships evolve. Yes it is a little slower than I like but not enough to make me stop watching it.
I like the sets
I like most of the actors
I like not knowing what is coming next
I like the music and editing.
I like the Lesbian Epsisode!!!! 🙂
What I don’t like-
The stones- I think it would be better on their own.
Lou Diamond Phillips
A little too familiar still
Slow to build to something but getting there- Still watchable.
In closing we need to give these time- Some of the greatest shows needed time to gorw and evolve. Not all take off from the get go. I agree with Mac and Skiz !!!!

Wow! I am impressed. Thank you for asking!
1. Which character would you like to see explored more?
—-The Senator’s daughter or Eli. That relationship is one of the few saving graces of this show.
2. What aspect of the show would you like to see exploited more?
—-The why and where of the ship they are on. Let’s Explore the universe…
3. What aspect of the show would prefer to see minimized?
—-The stupid stones…. Earth…. And frankly, the main character. Please let Rush be dead.
4. What was your favorite “story moment” from the first half of SGU’s first season?
—-The relationship between Eli and the Senator’s Daughter.
5. What element (I’m leaving this one wide open) would you like to see added to the series as a whole?
—-Please leave the Soap Opera stuff to Caprica, and BSG.
—-SGU is part of a Franchise. The franchise brought in viewers who developed an interest in the show because of the tie into archeology and the old myths all within the realm of some classic sci-fi story lines. This show has disregarded all that, it seems, in favor of more Soap Opera. Which really is a bit of a slap to the fans who are expecting something else. It’s like changing the recipe for coke, or the Big Mac. I respect the creative will of the Producers, but take it to another franchise, don’t change the SG universe us geeks have come to love.
Andrew McDonald says

I think they are developing Eli. It’s slow but he gets an awful lot of air time.
—-The why and where of the ship they are on. Let’s Explore the universe…
Agreed. I had no problem with the first few episodes being about survival because that makes sense. You can’t go on to tell other stories and explore the universe if you die of starvation. They need Eli or one of the other geeks to find some sort of food replication devices…
—-The stupid stones…. Earth…. And frankly, the main character. Please let Rush be dead.
I like the stones. Even Atlantis figured out a way to communicate with Earth pretty early in the series.
—-The relationship between Eli and the Senator’s Daughter.
Boring… I like Eli and Chloe but the love triangle thing with Lieutenant Scott doesn’t interest me at all.

There’s no reason why they still can’t go there and I am sure they will. But given the distances involved it won’t be archeology as it relates to Earth history. I agree they do need to move beyond the whole survival thing and get into meeting some people and get to actually exploring this huge ship (a lot of SGA stories were based on things they stumbled on in Atlantis).
James H. says
1. Which character would you like to see explored more?
Destiny’s AI and the ship itself
2. What aspect of the show would you like to see exploited more?
The AI of the ship
3. What aspect of the show would prefer to see minimized?
Intersteller marriage trouble
4. What was your favorite “story moment” from the first half of SGU’s first season?
“Don’t say it.” .. “a good friend” .. “you said it”
Humor in darkness helps. And this show is dark.
5. What element (I’m leaving this one wide open) would you like to see added to the series as a whole?
Leverage what has gone before in other series to full extent.
Explain why things are the way they are.
SciFi is fish out of water storytelling. Once they are settled in add aliens as the fish.
