Is “World of Warcraft” Hurting the Adult Entertainment Industry?

Is “World of Warcraft” Hurting the Adult Entertainment Industry?

January 12, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 9 Comments

worldofwarcraftApparently it’s not just mainstream Hollywood that’s facing economic woes.  According to reports, sales for adult entertainment content is also down, leading the Daily Beast’s Richard Abowitz to write a column saying that pirating via peer to peer networks and on-line gaming is hurting the industry.

In his column, Abowitz says that recently concluded Adult Entertainment Expo (held in Las Vegas) has shrunk in recent years and that there are several factors in play here.

Abowitz says that adult star Dana DeArmond blames pirating of content as part of the problem.

“If people don’t realize it is stealing and start paying for their porn then performers are going to stop performing,” says DeArmond. The star went on to say that while there is a rise in interest in amateur content, that its unlikely that will replace the professional produced and filmed content.

Another issue the industry is facing is competition from on-line games like “World of Warcraft.”

“It is all entertainment that you are getting involved in the same way as porn is entertainment,” said Aiden, an adult star. “I won’t say everyone, but a lot of people in the industry play videogames. The games are competition for porn.”

Aiden (no last name, this is porn!) should know, as he is also Webmaster for his wife Belladonna’s successful site EnterBelladonna.com. As for his online gaming, his wife wants him to cut back. “Yeah, my wife and I occasionally argue about the amount of time I spend playing.”

So some people prefer Orcs and Night Elves to T&A. What is the world coming to? And is the porn industry going to fight back with movies that feature similar fantasy characters? Will live internet sex shows start to feature performers in elven and dwarfish outfits? I better not go any further with these ideas, its starting to drift into Fox Leader territory.

Try googling “girls of Godzilla” and see what you get. Not really a furry. A lizzy maybe.

If this was true, we’d all be standing around in Goldshire. Bragging about or level 80 rogue, dancing nude on mailboxes, and hitting on hot night elf babes. You can do that in Vegas……..I hear.
