You know what’s really sad? This trailer was better than the entire “End of Time” story. Some absolutely beautiful scenes and brilliant performances from Tennant and company were completely let down by some of the most stupid, bone-headed, pointless, “Russell T Davies-is-having-a-wank-onscreen” writing we’ve seen in the entire new series so far.

Not sure if I like the bow tie. Is it just me, or does Matt Smith look like Jared Padalecki from Supernatural?

As for the End of Time, I was into it until the ending. Didn’t we just see this kind of “every character gets a denouement” ending in BSG?

Where is all the hate coming from? I just don’t get it. It’s like everyone was watching a completely different Doctor Who story from the one I was.

I kinda thought it was well done. He got to say his goodbyes which is something that no other Doctor has ever really been able to do. Now it’s time to sit back and see how the new Doctor does things.

Having watched the confidential, RTD has said that the reason for the ‘nod’ to the previous companions etc is that he’s not expecting Moffat to use them. Whether that remains to be seen is another matter.

“End of Time” was the typical excesses of the RTD era…and I expected it.

Davies is great at writing emotional moments but fails when it comes to trying to create an epic storyline. He simply can’t do it…..as we’ve seen time and again.

He wanted to recreate Logopolis from the end of the 4th Doctor’s era…and didn’t really get close.

And I believe Moffatt has repeatedly said he wants to move forward and not keep bringing back the companions..which is exactly how it should be.

Okay, I will miss Tennant, just as I’ve missed every outgoing Doctor, but I’m ready for the new guy now. He said, “I’m the Doctor,” and I believed him. (Also, “I’m crashing! Geronimo!” is a fantastic introduction.) Plus, I listened to the podcast commentary for EoT2 where he got the seal of approval from both Julie Gardner and David Tennant, in addition to Steven Moffatt and the continuing production team.

As for EoT itself, I loved it, but I’m a shmaltzy old thing. ::sniff:: 🙂

What struck me about most of the character denouements is how unnecessary most of them were. We’d already had a farewell for Rose. Hell, we’ve had two already. Did we really need a third? Torchwood has been confirmed for a 4th series, so Jack will be back there. And the Doctor’s big goodbye to him was helping Jack score? Since when did Jack need help with that? There’s always the possibility of another Sarah Jane Adventures as well. Martha and Donna were still well, Martha and Donna. Donna’s was perhaps the most disappointing as he’s leaving her exactly the way she was when he first encountered her. Martha and Rose both grew and reached greater potential. But Donna is left stuck in her small life never to remember that she once save the entire universe.

“And the Doctor’s big goodbye to him was helping Jack score? Since when did Jack need help with that?”

Well, what other problem can he solve for him? He wouldn’t bother trying to save his life, because he knows that Jack can’t die.

Plus, he wasn’t just helping out Jack in that scene. He was also helping out Alonso, who looked like he needed a friend.

Kyle it was obvious that Davies was using that scene to set up for the next season of Torchwood by helping to introduce one of the new characters that will likely be teaming up with Jack for his next set of adventures.

Kyle, I don’t know. Maybe the Doctor could have just listened to Jack and commiserated with him over his decision to sacrifice his grandson to save the world?

On the bright side, season five doesn’t look full of overkill

I really enjoyed TEoT. Possibly because I’m a young thing initiated on the new series rather than the old, but I thought it was rather well-done.

The nod back to the old companions was nice because — yes, we’ve seen The Doctor say goodbye to them in the past, but it almost felt more personal this time. It’s not just The Doctor saying goodbye because he won’t see them again, it’s saying goodbye to this era of Who. And I liked that. It was a proper send-off. (:

That said, I’m quite excited for the new series. (:
