“Watchmen” Director’s Cut Will Have Limited Theatrical Run

June 25, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

If you live in Los Angeles, New York, Minneapolis and Dallas you will be able to catch the director’s cut of “Watchmen” on the big-screen.

Warner Brothers announced that it will give the director’s cut of “Watchmen” a one-week limited theatrical run before the movie hits DVD and Blu Ray.  The screenings will take place a week before the movie hits shelves on July 21.

The rollout will culminate with a special screening July 25 at Comic-Con that is designed to act as a BD-Live event, a Blu-ray feature that will allow any viewer in North America to watch the movie simultaneously as the audience at Comic-Con, see and hear Snyder comment on the movie, and even ask questions. The screening will then be archived and will be able to be accessed for future viewings.

“Comic-Con, it isn’t just comic book fanatics, it’s cinephiles as well. It’ll be cool to discuss what people are thinking,” Snyder said.  The day was designed to showcase a bonus Blu-ray feature called Maximum Movie Mode as well as features to be seen in Snyder’s Blu-ray release of “300: The Complete Experience.”

The rerelease is unusual given that “Watchmen” wasn’t the blockbuster Warner Brothers hoped for at the box-office.

Damn It – Phoenix never rates on these things.

We have little better to do than go to an Air Conditioned theatre in our 110° heat.

    Sheesh!

Again with a limited-run geek movie leaving out Boston! There are so many colleges here. We have a very high concentration of nerds itching to spend money on exactly this sort of thing.

And I’m not going to be in NYC again until October. ::pout::

As someone who lives in Phoenix, AZ it always sucks when we aren’t “cool enough” to get the big premiers or really any big events in the world of film.
