Ball Promises “Just More” For “True Blood” Season Two

Ball Promises “Just More” For “True Blood” Season Two

June 11, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

Producer Alan Ball says fans can expect the second season of HBO’s “True Blood” to be “just more — sexier, hotter, funnier, scarier, more violent,” according to USA Today.   Ball added that he takes seriously the mandate of the show to be “popcorn for smart people.”

Actress Anna Panquin, who plays Sookie Stackhouse, teased that the new season will be “nakeder.”

Based on the best-selling novels by Charlene Harris, “True Blood” is the story of Sookie Stackhouse and her vampire boyfriend, Bill.  The couple lives in Lousisiana and in the “True Blood” universe vampires gingerly entering society after the discovery of synthetic blood eliminates the need — if not always the desire — to feed on humans.

The second season will follow the second installment of the novels, “Living Dead in Dallas” reports USA Today.

And while the season may start out with the central couple being happy together, fans can expect things won’t stay that way for long.

“Their initial growing-pains moments are over for the time being, but because it’s Bill and Sookie and True Blood, as soon as things get even vaguely comfortable, something always comes along to disrupt it, be that a vampire teenager or (vampire) Eric or odd creatures,” Paquin said.

Season 2 will expand to to three story lines: Bill and Sookie, with teen vamp Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) in tow, off to find a missing vampire; Tara (Rutina Wesley) and Sam (Sam Trammell) thrown off kilter by the mysterious Maryann (Michelle Forbes); and Sookie’s suggestible brother, Jason (Ryan Kwanten), attending a conference of the anti-vampire Fellowship of the Sun.

“It’s like three different shows, but they all eventually converge,” Ball says.

And the stories move, Paquin says. “We all know our characters better, and we’re not starting from a place of having to introduce them to the audience.”

“True Blood” returns Sunday night on HBO. And fans who want to catch up on the first season can find it on DVD.

I love this show, and am happy they have expanded Charlaine’s novels for the series. Just because I know the books doesn’t mean I know what’s coming next on the tv series. For example, the first five minutes of the season opening … that set the tone for the rest of the season.
