Lohman Discusses “Drag Me To Hell” Role

Lohman Discusses “Drag Me To Hell” Role

May 26, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 1 Comment

Before she took on the lead role in Sam Raimi’s upcoming “Drag Me to Hell,” actress Alison Lohman had never seen Raimi’s original horror classic, “Evil Dead.”  Looking back, Lohman says that might have been a good idea before she accepted the lead role in Raimi’s return to horror, that debuts in theaters this weekend.

“At the very end [of our conversation], he said, ‘I just want you to know, I hope you’re up for this,'” Lohman told SciFi Wire. “I vaguely just thought, ‘Oh, does he mean because it’s a horror movie? He must mean because it’s a horror movie.’ I hadn’t seen ‘Evil Dead’, so I just didn’t know what he meant.”

“It’s funny, because when he told me the story on the phone, it was about three hours long,” she continued.  “He could have had time to tell me all that, so it turned out to be that it should’ve been a bigger part of the discussion.”

Lohman went on to say she’s seen the original “Evil Dead” now.

She also said that she enjoyed playing her role in “Hell” though she wasn’t aware she was playing it as a “wink” to the audience instead of a straight dramatic role.

“I don’t think I knew that. I didn’t know of that aspect, because I was learning about Sam’s style as I was doing it, and then I never even really had a grasp of it until I watched the movie,” she said. “The only thing that I care about is just that I have a strong sense of who I play. If I have that, then I don’t have any insecurities.”

And while she isn’t up for a sequel to “Hell,” Lohman said she would jump at the chance to work with Raimi again.

“Drag Me to Hell” opens Friday in theaters.

Alison’s a babe, and it’s good to see Raimi back in comfortable territory. I’m looking forward to this.
