With only one new episode left in its second season, fans of NBC’s “Chuck” are rallying to keep the season finale from becoming the series finale.
Television critics and bloggers Alan Sepinwall and Maureen Ryan have both written columns this week, praising the sophomore series and imploring NBC execs to give the show a shot at a third season. And we, here at Slice of SciFi, have been rallying around the show in the past couple of weeks, hoping to get the word out to all of our “Chuck” fans on how they can work to save the show.
The latest campaign involves Twitter and Subway restaurants. If you watched “Chuck vs the First Kill,” a foot-long sub was featured in the storyline at the Buy More. Using Twitter to get the word out, fans are planning a massive “foot-long buying” next Monday evening to support “Chuck.” Here’s more information from the Los Angeles Times Showtracker blog:
In an interview at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas, Schwartz said he had a good meeting with NBC about “Chuck’s” future, but he would not speculate on whether the show would survive. NBC, which is stripping Jay Leno across the 10 p.m. time period five nights a week, does not have a lot of real estate for shows like Schwartz’s that are on the bubble.
In the meantime, “Chuck” fans are taking matters into their own hands. According to Schwartz, there is a push on the Internet to get fans to go to Subway on Monday before the season finale to buy sandwiches in support of the show. Why Subway? Because the sandwich shop was featured prominently in a recent episode. So much for product placement turning off viewers. “It shows a real sophistication on the part of the viewer,” Schwartz said.
Fans who participate in the buy a sub, save Chuck challenge may want to drop a note to NBC and Subway. ChuckTV has a great list of addresses and names to (politely) contact about the show.

I think I’ll be eating Subway for lunch.
I got behind on Chuck because it was starting to get old. The way you guys kept talking about it inspired me to get caught up sooner than later and I did so over the weekend. My mind is blown. I’ll be upset if they dont bring it back next year.

Subway is a nice idea for the USA viewer, but internationally even if you have a Subway it will not mean the same thing.
I saw an online petition going and Re-twitted the URL which was “http://tinypaste.com/81abd”. Can not claim it will help but I did sign the petition.

Subway is also the largest selling ‘franchise’ business, not corporate stores. I can’t imagine this campaign seriously making any difference, but maybe that’s what the showrunners thought.
Robin says
I don’t eat at Subway very often (the food’s pretty good; it’s just not on my list of defaults), but I may have to make a point of it on Monday.

Well, I’ll be eating at Subway on Monday.
And can we get Crazy Joe to punch NBC executives in the junk for that stupid Jay Leno deal?
Gary from Jacksonville says
What the heck, I’ll go to Subway, but I’m not sure how much of an impact it will really have.

If I’d known, I’d have hit up Subway for lunch today instead of the kebab place. Damn my lack of internet!

Since the start Mike and Brian said this show had a limited shelf life and they were right. Frankly it’s been quirky, funny and a great popcorn show, but it’s had it’s arc. I would be perfectly happy if they did a clean season ender tonight and killed it. It’s been a fun ride by some jokes can only play out so far.
