One of the writer’s of “Watchmen” has a favor to ask–please, see the movie again this weekend.
David Hayter, who helped adapt the comic book for the big-screen, issued an open letter to fans world-wide this week, saying the second weekend numbers were probably more important to the film that the opening weekend and that if fans want to see more faithful adaptations of popular graphic novels and stories, they need to check out the film again this weekend.
“You have to understand, everyone is watching to see how the film will do in its second week. If you care about movies that have a brain, or balls, (and this film’s got both, literally), or true adaptations,” he wrote. “And if you’re thinking of seeing it again anyway, please go back this weekend, Friday or Saturday night. Demonstrate the power of the fans, because it’ll help let the people who pay for these movies know what we’d like to see. Because if it drops off the radar after the first weekend, they will never allow a film like this to be made again.”
“Watchmen” may need some help with several remakes hitting theaters this weekend. And while the film did carry the box-office totals last weekend, the overall gross was $10 million off studio predictions. Add in that the numbers fell from Friday to Sunday and it’s easy to see why Hayter is concerned.
“Watchmen” may not bring in “Dark Knight” like numbers, but it does need to have a solid second weekend.

I’ll pass. I’d much rather get a good movie than a slavish adaptation that photocopies the scenes from the GN, but misses the point of the story.

I’ll second that emotion. I just saw it for the first time tonight, so I am actually part of the second weekend take, but I kind of wish I wasn’t.

Rorschach was an especially well developed as a character; i hope the actor that played his role is nominated for some kind of an award (when that season comes around again)
