Original “Battlestar” Movie On the Horizon?

Original “Battlestar” Movie On the Horizon?

February 23, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 10 Comments

“Battlestar Galactica” could be headed to a theater near you.  But wait, it’s not a new movie based on the current series which ends its run on SciFi next month.  No, this would be the long-rumored reunion of the original “Battlestar Galactica” crew.

Confused yet?

According to IGN, Universal Pictures is in discussions with series creator Glen A. Larson to bring the original “Galactica” to a theater near you.   According to reports, the movie would be the long-rumored continuation of the original series and would have nothing to do with the Ronald D. Moore version currently ending its run on SciFi.

Universal will neither confirm or deny the story.   However, IGN reports that an official announcement on the movie will come sometime in the near future.

That would be great. I personally always thought that the SciFi channel should have let Richard Hatch continue the story rather than let Ronald Moore create the dismal mess that he has.

    Oh God no!

There is only one reason they would even consider doing this……. Money.

If it is done, it is going to stuff the whole franchise, and in some ways negate Mr Moore’s version.

    Please don’t!

Omni? Zeeterma? Dismal mess? man what are you guys smoking?? the new BSG is so much better it cannot even be measured. Don’t get me wrong, I love the 80’s cheese Battlestar, but it’s just that, cheesy. The new one blows it away.

On a lighter note, if the orignal Adama, Loren Greene is a cylon, maybe they can bring him back for the movie!

This just seems… weird. Bring back the thing that wasn’t that good and ignoring the brilliance that is today’s BSG? Maybe we’re not reading this right. After all, Lorne Green has gone on to his great reward, right?

This ranks right up there with Hollywood making a Stretch Armstrong movie.

    UGH.

In true Hollywood fashion, the writers take LSD before penning the script, and make a story line where the “original” BSG crew travel to the future where Starbuck meets Starbuck, and they frak. Their offspring creates a time paradox creating a wormhole back to the little known BSG 1980 series, where there’s a zero cylon named Caprica, which is actually Muffit II.
