“Push” Confused Its Stars

“Push” Confused Its Stars

January 28, 2009 By Michael Hickerson 4 Comments

Have you seen the ads for the upcoming “Push” and wondered what the movie was about?

You’re not alone.

Apparently, the stars of the film also had questions about what they were doing during filming.

Filled with contant action and a lot of plot twists, actresses Stars Camilla Belle (Kira) and Djimon Hounsou (Agent Carver) said they had a difficult time keeping up with the script during filming.

“I remember a few moments where we all sat down and said, ‘What happens? Where are we supposed to be going now?'” Belle told SciFi Wire.

In the film, Belle’s Kira is a “pusher”–someone with the ability to manipulate memories–who has escaped the government agency that’s trying to experiment on her. Hounsou’s Carver is an agent of the secret government agency known as “Division” who is trying to retrieve Kira. Carver is also a very powerful “pusher” and a master of telekinetic ability.

“You do have to surrender,” Hounsou said. “At that point it’s all hell for the director. I can’t keep up with where you are at all times. As an actor, you become too analytical about the story.”

“The plot itself is very confusing,” she laughed. “We still don’t understand exactly what happened.”

One thing in the movie’s favor.  The director, Paul McGuigan, went for more realistic shooting and kept the use of green screens and computer generated backgrounds to a minimum.  The majority the movie was shot guerilla-style in Hong Kong using handheld and hidden cameras.

It’s so crowded,” says Hounsou. “I was in shock the way they pass each other in that city. People bump into you hard and don’t even turn around or say sorry. You better just keep on going. Nobody has time to fight you. It’s so overwhelming.”

Cameras were hidden in windows, behind trucks and in just about any other place they could avoid drawing attention. “We had one scene where I get grabbed by [Hounsou]’s two agents,” Belle said. “I wish I had seen some of the reactions [of passers-by]. I was in the scene, so I couldn’t see it, but I heard that some people stopped and freaked out. Other people just kept going and couldn’t care less.”

Audiences will be able to see the film and if they can follow it next week Friday when “Push” opens in theaters.

If the trailer for this movie is true to the plot of the film, it is obviously a COMPLETE and TOTAL rip-off of Heroes. You can even see parallels to specific characters and plots from the show. Way to go, Hollywood.

Why are people so upset about different stories about people with paranormal or mutant abilities?

How many different ways can anyone film telekinetic abilities, or things being manipulated by telekinetic abilities?

I’m willing to give this movie the benefit of the doubt until I can see it for myself… besides, remember when Heroes first started and some people dismissed it as a ripoff of X-Men? I would much rather see 4 or 5 different movies that are ripoffs of Heroes than 4 or 5 more movies like Beverly Hills Chihuahua or The Pink Panther or anything with a comedian in drag or a fat suit.

I’ve got a great idea for a movie…a guy wearing a fat suit and in drag.

    Oh wait..they did that….

Just put the Chihuahua in a fat suit and have it solve some stupid mystery, then we only need one bad movie.
