Rumor: Ryan Could Be New “Who” Companion

Rumor: Ryan Could Be New “Who” Companion

January 20, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 7 Comments

Former “Bionic Woman” actress Michelle Ryan is reportedly in conversations with the BBC to assume the role of the new companion on “Doctor Who” according to the UK’s Daily Mirror.

The Mirror reports Ryan has been “in secret talks with BBC bosses” about joining Matt Smith in the TARDIS for the fifth series, which will debut in 2010.

“The BBC launched Michelle’s acting career as Zoe Slater in ‘EastEnders’ and she will be thrilled to be back with them in such a legendary role,” said a undisclosed source. “It’s an incredible opportunity for her and even though she’s had a lot of success already she is still young and at the start of her career.”

American audiences will know Ryan from her role as Jamie Summers in last year’s “Bionic Woman” reboot. She has worked with new “Who” producer, Steven Moffat on “Jekyll.”

Lily Allen, 23, Kelly Brook, 29, and 23-year-old Carey Mulligan – who played Sally Sparrow in the third season’s “Blink” – have all recently been linked to the coveted assistant’s role.

The BBC is reported to be close to announcing the final casting news soon.  However, until we have something official, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt…

I finally decided to see some episodes of Dr. Who and was actually enjoying it, despite it being quite childish. Now with michelle i will completly ignore this series.
I saw about half of Bionic Woman’s pilot. It was awfull, michelle can only carry her big sized boobs around. She’s not an actress, she’ll never be. And a production that casts someone like her only brcause of her “broadchest” doesn’t deserve my respect.

Having watch all of Bionic Woman, I have to say that Michelle Ryan is a much better actress when allowed to used her natural accent. That said, I’m not sure how I feel about having her as the new Who companion, but I was a little iffy about Katherine Tate at first and now I like Donna almost as much as Martha. (I love Martha to bits and pieces.)

I really love Dr. who and I don’t really care who is in the series as long as they keep it going. I really like companions are smart and brainy and help the doctor figure everything out. One good thing about the premise of Dr. who is it you keep getting different actors in the roles and someone always comes along that you really like.

I think with a new Doctor, we should have a companion that we are familiar with… when Tennant came into the picture, Rose was still there,, and with each new companion, the doctor was the same.. now with a new doctor.. they should of either kept Donna, or go with someone we have seen before.. I think ms Sparrow would be great, but even if we went back to martha, or even Ms Smith for a couple of episodes, just to get into the swing of things
