“Terminator Salvation” Will Have Tie-In Video Game

“Terminator Salvation” Will Have Tie-In Video Game

November 25, 2008 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

Fans who want to experience more of the “Terminator” universe are in luck.   Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Equity Games Production and Halcyon Games announced a tie-in video game to next summer’s “Terminator: Salvation” that will put players right in the middle of the battle for mankind.

The game will be a third-person shooter and allow players the chance to assume the role of John Connor, a soldier in the resistance, battling for survival against the far superior forces of Skynet. The game will feature concentrated armed combat against all of the Skynet enemies from the film while encountering new enemies specifically designed for the game. The game was developed by GRIN Studios, published by Equity Games, co-published by Evolved Games and distributed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

“‘Terminator Salvation – The Videogame’ allows players to battle for survival against Skynet enemies utilizing an incredibly fluid and realistic control set,” said Cos Lazouras, President of Halcyon Games. “The player will be led through a visceral story with extremely polished production values to create a fully interactive Terminator experience.”

“Building on the incredibly strong franchise, ‘Terminator Salvation – The Videogame’ will be a cinematic gaming experience that complements the upcoming film,” said John Quinn, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Operations, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Working with Halcyon and Equity Games, we will expand on the Terminator universe on next generation consoles with action packed gameplay and detailed environments.”

What? An action movie with a video game tie-in? Why, that’s brilliant!

I can see it now: The movie’s a success, the game will be a success, and ten years from now we can make a sequel to the movie based on the video game…Yes! Marketing Genius!

There may be some hope of a quality game. GRIN made Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1 and 2 which were good games. Plus the new Bionic Commando which has an average of 7.9 out of 10 on metacritic.

But unless it has been in development since the beginning of the new franchise it’ll probably be crappy or really short but good.

Well, it all depends on when they start advertising the game… Have you ever noticed that if the movie is going to suck, the game gets advertised heavy, and the game ads are as prevalent as the film trailers, AND the game is scheduled to release FIRST. That way, the game makes money whether or not the movie goes belly up. If that happens with this game, it doesn’t matter whether the game is any good, the movie will suck.

However, the usual problems with movie tie-in games is that they’re underdeveloped and less than good, so I have no faith in them until gamers make their judgments.
