EW Unveils the New USS Enterprise

EW Unveils the New USS Enterprise

November 12, 2008 By Michael Hickerson 12 Comments

Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive photo at the new look of the U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC 1701) from J.J. Abrams’ upcoming “Star Trek.”

Abrams said that his goal with the new ship was to evoke the same kind of feeling he got when he saw “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” for the first time.

“The coolest thing about it–maybe the coolest thing in the movie–was when you flew around the ship, you could see all the different panels that made up the ship,” Abrams said “It was the first time I had ever seen that level of attention, that love of detail, given to the tangible, practical reality of the ship.”

Fans can catch more glimpses of the Enterprise and her crew this Friday when the teaser trailer debuts in theaters.

Nice! I love it. While it still has the general look and feel of the original, it still feels futuristic enough from today’s technology.

Wow… I like the new ship design. I just hope the hardcore Trekkies don’t blow a gasket over this reboot. I’m really excited to see how it turns out.

Aw, Man! The least they could have done was give it a retro feel! Put some tail fins on it, a nice pair of fuzzy dice on the dash, and maybe (to keep with the future theme) some spinners on the warp nacelles.

Geez Lejon, what is this.. Pimp My Starship? 🙂

I dunno. The nacelles remind me of a ’57 Chevy. But, looks good.

I hear this is the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs!

I’d think it would be more of a challenge to spice up the original TOS design rather than retconning us with this contemporary redesign. I admit it looks cool, but I wish they were more faithful to the original.

I am decidedly neutral on this design. I was kind of hoping for some kind of melding of the TOS series ship and the TOS movie ship. Not that I have any idea what such a thing would look like, but I was still hoping for it.

Love it. And I’ve been a Trekker (not Trekkie) since the 70s. I’m like J.J. seeing the Enterprise for the first time in the Motion Picture was a real rush. I’m thinking I may feel the same again after seeing the new trailer.

Hey! Where’s the shuttlecraft bay? How can we have stories of those darn shuttlecraft (with keys left in their ignition) stolen by arrant starship commanders taking them out for “plot development” spins?

This is unfair! Bring me one of those “Big Door” shuttle bays!

“Captain, someone is opening the shuttlecraft bay, sir.”
    “Shut them, Mr. Sulu.”
    “Too late, sir.”

    Kaboom…..

Who let the Anime artist loose on the 1701? Just retouch the skins of the org series ship and be done! Not liking the swoosh on the rear of the secondary and the “Doom’s day machine” look of the nacelles. E-yuck!

What’s wrong with this one anyway? http://imaginedworlds.us/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/enterprise002.jpg
